The Land That Time Forgot
Let's just call it what it is: if you not sure you black, you ain't :stopitslime: move along, folks.

Folks won't move along because many of them are insecure about their own identity, which is why they get vexxed over how this man defines himself.

This man was raised by his Italian biological mother to consider himself full Italian, while being raised among NYC Italians.

He is a multimillionaire sports broadcaster with over 30 years in the game. He attended Syracuse University, an overwhelmingly white institution.

From what I understand, his wife is white and his are kids at least 75 percent white.

How is this supposed to affect me, born of two black parents raised among NYC black people? What do I have in common with him?

Now you know its not that simple... acknowledging ur blackness as an athlete, entertainer, whatever now opens u up to other questions that maybe ur not comfortable answering. maybe he just feels comfortable being mike tirico "the commentator" .not Mike tirico "the black commentator"...
especially if he grew up with different races in his family, he might see himself more like them then a black person. Its is person preference
Between your posts in this thread and the Vick/Kaep thread its clear your a pathetic, spineless ass nikka.

Nah... just tired of fake militant. or shyt, real militants with no brain. Who luv to follow everyone else's opinions, just to be down.
But im the same way in real life, i try to think clearly about a situation, without any biases or emotions involved.
I have enough life experience to know I should let people LIVE on certain issues because everybody grows up differently, and has their own life experiences. That dictate how they move in this world.
I am not mike tirico. I embrace my blackness to the fullest. But I promote peace and UNDERSTANDING first and foremost

It's not that simple acknowledging being classified as black as an obviously black person now? :laff:
Lol sounds funny right... for us as regular blacks its an open and shut thing.
But for people in the public eye its not that simple. ur image, how u answer questions, how u view urself and others, play a major part in ur success and how much money can be made doing whatever u do.
These people understand this. and some dont feel comfortable talking about being the "black QB" or the "black commentator" or whatever.
Or shyt... maybe he really doesnt look in the mirror and see a black man because of some dillusion... Either way, let him get his paper.

Most black people in the public eye are simply black.

So if you dont feel comfortable being the "black commentator" you just claim Italian and deny you're black altogether? :skip:

Apparently, tirico was raised by his mother and only knew her side of the family, who are all Italian "white people"... so he has brown skin. is he really a black person? should he feel comfortable calling himself an African American?.... even if you say "yes, he should".. that doesnt mean that him, Mike Tirico, who's life we are discussing right now.... does feel comfortable doing that... And we cant have any understanding for that? None?

I highly doubt Mike hasnt faced racism in his life. He knows he's black.

My brother... what is being black tho? im sure hes looked in the mirror, and seen his skin tone. And maybe in his life hes faced some racial situations because of his skin tone.. But if u grow up in a white house hold, in a white family, and maybe atleast half of the blood running thru ur veins is of Caucasian lineage. Are u really going to identify as an African American? probly didnt have the same situations/struggles that other AAs have faced.. that would actually be disingenuous. So i commend him for not even playing that card.
Theres actually dudes out here playing that card, who have had privileged lifestyles. or really on the low cant identify with the more common AA experience. Some of these dudes are glorified on this site.

Kap has 2 white parents and doesnt have this problem. Tons of half white people identity with black just fine.

But hey, I'll concede your point.
