I disagree, a lot of rappers back then were good musicians but they played tha role of a gangster

Over time everybody had more access to recording equipment and real felons started rapping which also contributed to tha quality of rap diminishing, but in return we got authenticy :manny:

lol yo name sound like sum type of hiphop spoof but im the vh1 special? :comeon:

50 was basically the last of the "superstar gangsta" type of rappers, after him, it was all about trap music or sum soft shyt..there was no flag bearer for hardcore/gangsta rap after 50.

the last NEW street artist that sold a lot & had the streets behind him besides 50 was jeezy, and for him that started in 05, ever since then, the streets haven't been a factor sales wise..plus all the rappers who the streets listen to fukked wit kanye, so how wasn't he the "in thing" in hiphop?

:why: how can you say it was no transition when there's clearly a difference between the rap scene from the early 2000's up to today?

and regardless of how it happened, legitimately or not, it happened. :manny:

you watch too much tv man. its bigger than all that.

but yo, do your homework on my name before you throw ridiculous insults that further exposes your lack of knowledge when it comes to this here rap game.

it's cameras every fukkin where now, crimes are a HELL of a lot harder to pull off, combine that with what you saying about no real inherit struggle and you got what you have...a bunch of young dumb nikkas looking for excuses to maintain what has been laid before them as the path to whatever fukked up concept of manhood they have.

the struggle is now an internal one.

how can the struggle be internal when theres tons of people out there that cant get hired for jobs? we're still in a recession.

do the math.

its not the '80s or '90s but chit is still f*cked up out here b. yall can think its sweet all you want. i almost had to pull the burner out on some young buls last week wit they plottin @$$. if i believed that everything was all hunky-dorey like yall say, my guard wouldve been down and i wouldve prolly been a vic.

Sounds like your standard fairly ridiculous obvious middle age back in the day revisionism that we all know to be false

Not true. Look at the avg 24 yr old rapper today. Then look at who was mid 20s back in 90-95.

The 20s today look like anorexic vegans with osteoperosis.

In the 90s they looked grown up and like they been through some shyt already.

rappers do look mad feminine and frail today. Back then....even the skinny nikkas had a rugged charisma that made u respect them, like Busta...Meth..Fredro...Treach. To me thats whats really lacking in hip hop now more than anything.....Charisma & ANIMATION. nikkas dont know how to let their Chi flow.

@hustlemania makes valid points...

I can believe both sides of the argument. Yes, a lot of rappers you probbably didn't even think were tough could still handle themselves back then. That being said, we also can't assume that today's supposed "soft" rappers can't handle themselves either, based off what they look like. That's the same mentality that got nikkas' asses beat by De La Soul back in the early-'90s.

And yes, one thing is that back then, there wasn't all the access to rappers' lives like there is now. We only know about rappers gettin' beat up, robbed, etc. because everywhere they go there's a nikka with a camera, ready to throw it on Worldstar or Youtube. Back then, wasn't no bunch of outlets where everything rappers did got exposed. For all we know, some of our favorite tough-guy rappers from the 80s/90s coulda been getting bytched on the regular- but we'll never know that because we can't go on Youtube and look at it.

I blame the food people eat for that. Back then, nikkas ate home cooked food and look like they did a 5 year bid at 16 due to the harsh realities. Nowadays, kids grow up in a technologically advanced society and have everything handed to them without work.

how can the struggle be internal when theres tons of people out there that cant get hired for jobs? we're still in a recession.

the fact that people gotta wait around for someone to give them a job just reaffirms what i'm saying homie, we are our jobs, what we do and how we move in the world in regards to others needs directly relate to the quality of energy received back whether that be actual money or connects, ect.

you got so many nikkas trying to run to universities that it's devalued the whole idea of having a degree, people are going to college to end up out of work, you can't bank on sitting at some desk pushing paper and pen strokes, you gotta DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEBODY, you gotta CREATE SOMETHING! which basically goes against the modern day model of american consumerism.

finding out what that something is the definition of an internal struggle, and it's not one confined to the black experience.

its not the '80s or '90s but chit is still f*cked up out here b. yall can think its sweet all you want. i almost had to pull the burner out on some young buls last week wit they plottin @$$. if i believed that everything was all hunky-dorey like yall say, my guard wouldve been down and i wouldve prolly been a vic.

word? where da fukk were you and these young buls at when this happened? at the library?

:comeon:

i'm not saying shyt can't happen or that you should be a hermit for fear of having to kill a muthafukka but a lot of times nikkas get into bullshyt without taking into account where, and around who they place themselves, not you specifically but in general. that ain't no struggle, that's just ignorance.
