I’d be pissed too if the said I was primarily Congo... but proudly I’m Yoruba genetically. Congo is like thinking you were English or Italian or German and finding out you are Polish or Gypsy.

I peeped this too, breh. I love Mike, but it’s almost like he despises “Blackness”.

Did you see the episode with Jim Jones when Mike was roasting the people of Sentinel Island and calling them “savages” and shyt?
:snoop:
Yeah, man. I love Mike so it's hard to watch sometimes.

I remember the Jim Jones episode and making similar remarks on other ones. He's so well-read on different facets of history, but will still say things like he doesn't believe that humans came from Africa and always brushes it off as a continent that hasn't produced anything.

It feels like he deeply internalized the white savior thing because of how Cus D'Amato changed and saved his life. He's so enlightened in other areas and you root for him, which is why this big of a blindspot, over your own blackness of all things always makes me sad to watch whenever he gets on shyt like that.

People are remarkably ignorant about Africa and that is by design. It's a huge continent with hundreds of cultures and languages and ethnic groups. It has a ton of history that most people know nothing about.

They dont know about the castles and kings of Ethiopia. They dont know about the songhai empire or the sculptures of yoruba land. They don't know about great Zimbabwe or the nubian pharaohs or the fact that it was only in 2008 that they were able to decipher the meroitic language.

Chances are all that mike knew about africa was the maasai people and egyptians so he was hoping he descended from some pharaoh or something.

Any videos or good reads on this:ohhh:

Kinda off topic, but who is the best company to go with to get these DNA tests? Like I want my shyt to be as specific as possible, not just Sub-Saharan African.

None of them are accurate enough for its price. It gives you a broad picture of your ancestry and you can find some distant relatives through your results. Even your true paternity in some cases :lolbron:

to be honest as a half congolese, we soft as hell, lose wars to pretty much all our neighbors and dont like to fight.

no idea what Akon is talking about. we look strong but we be getting the beats from all our neighbors. we literally have zero wins against all . even angola eat from our plate. we're lovers not fighters.

If you want a specific ethnic group then you should take African Ancestry.

All of the other tests give you percentages of where your ancestors are from.

I know a lot of black people, myself included, who did the test and got back mostly Congolese ancestry. I thought it would be mostly Nigerian or Ghanaian.

This is a common misconception. Most people think majority of slaves in the US came from Ghana or Nigeria when in reality they came from west central Africa, mainly Angola and Congo. I attribute the misconception due to Nigeria and Ghana also being hit hard during the slavery trade and the fact that they were British colonies and are English speaking countries and have more visibility to us because of it.

Here:

since people are speaking of origins, this a good thread to repost this:

most people in places like the USA, and even Brazil, are of Angolan and Congolese descent. the West Central region of Africa got hit the hardest and accounts for the majority of slaves in North America, followed by the Senegambia region. Its a similar story for S. America.

The Portuguese were one of the pillars of slave trade. Hell, "Angola" (Louisiana state pen) is called "Angola" because majority of the slaves that worked the fields there were brought from Angola.

I watch Hot Boxing a lot and I notice Mike has some serious self hate around his blackness. He’s super Zen in other areas of his life but always has a tinge of disdain when talking about Africa and blackness in general. And always leans extra hard into calling himself a nikka or talking about “nikka” shyt

I don't think it is his image as a black person, I this it is his image of himself. He equates nikkaz = a nobody/worthless/poor. I don't think it's about him hating his blackness. He sees himself as not worthy

You’re right. Then he goes on and on about how his children don’t date other Blacks etc.. It’s weird, because he often roasts “white boys” and looks at them as inferior too. I don’t think that he’s a “self hater” necessarily. Mike is an inspirational, charismatic, and intelligent dude Idk...I’m going to rock with Mike regardless, but I have peeped some c00n-like behavior a few times, breh.

I've noticed that the diaspora tends to forget that bantus were also taken to the new world in large numbers. The focus always seems to be on west africa. Don't know why tho. Maybe the allure of the all the medieval empires or something :jbhmm:

I've also noticed black americans also tend to have more bantu ancestry than west indians ( based of those ancestry tests ). I'm part bajan but my west indian family just says they descend from Ghana lol but quite a lot of the slaves that went to barbados were from central africa.

A lot of the slaves that went everywhere were from Central Africa, because Congo/Angola was the largest exporter of slaves. What is now Nigeria was actually the second largest exporter of slaves.

African Americans have a really good idea of where they are from, because slaves were brought to the USA in layers for different reasons. Most African Americans are connected to the Rice Coast of West Africa (that area from Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone down to Liberia and over into Ivory Coast). Cameroon/Congo/Angola slaves were brought to the USA, because slave owners were concerned with too many slaves being from one place, which made revolts easier. So Congo/Angolan slaves were added, because they had different languages and cultures than people from the Rice Coast in West Africa, but ironically slaves from Congo/Angola led to one of the worst slaves revolts in USA history (Stone Rebellion). After that slaves were added from what we now know as the modern countries of Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Madagascar..

Akon's a cool guy for that lol

I would've called Mike a c00n...

Ironically Akon wasn't too far from the truth. Id like to echo @yates. Because we stress West Africa so much, very few of us realize that the Kingdom of Kongo was itself a functioning society(like mail, songhay, etc) that routinely defeated the Portuguise, Spanish, and French armies pre 1800, guns and all.

And if we are gonna keep it buck:usure:, old school congolese were capable of taking down gorillas(in groups); the same way south asians hunted tigers, East and North Africans dominated elephants, and Masaii take on lions. All of which Europeans were powerless against.:wow:

There's more than enough in there for Mike to take pride in:manny:
