There are kids making money reviewing toys on YouTube, streaming content, playing video games, developing apps, etc. The one kid made like a $1M playing fortnite. If his parents do the right thing, he shouldn’t need to be chasing down some job.

The whole go to school, work for a company, have co-workers and all that just isn’t the life to live, IMO. It’s fine if people find joy in it, but it’s not THE direction I’m steering my daughter in, but if that’s the option she ultimately chose, I’m not mad.

That's mostly generation Z by this point. Some are millenials, but the very very youngest of them. And while it's true there are some more opportunities like this it favors the childless and the debtless.

Exactly, very few people actually profit off and well off nontraditional means. I've seen great graphic designers starve for a very long time before they even got anything to do.

These responses are exactly why I didn't respond to you @Rawtid.

That’s like saying there are comedies making money doing comedy.

I disagree with this too. Millennials get paid to do things like manage social media accounts or message boards, be virtual assistants, in fact they are more likely to have “multiple streams of income”. That woman, Wuzzam Supa made millions off her own make up line off the humble. She was cleaning hotel rooms for years before.

There are a lot of opportunities outside of the box that can and have beeb taken advantage of, a lot of the issue/pressure comes from thinking they have to do things like their parents.

More like it was supposed to be a tragedy, but people interpreting it as a comedy, so that's what it is. When's the last time you got paid to play with toy or video games AND was encouraged to do so? Most parents are trying to limit that, if not cut it off altogether. LOL I'm not saying don't prioritize education, but I also prioritize there could be a reward opportunity in gaming and support that where I can.

All that in less than 15 years. Thats why a socialist revolution is inevitable in America. I can almost taste it, cause most people of Gen Y and Z just about had it.

if they stop trying to follow the path of their parents and those before them, I think they will be fine. They can make millions playing video games or find creative ways to get income using social media.

the idea you need to be stuck at some job for the benefits and retirement is a stale ideology. They will be fine if people quit comparing them to their forefathers. Their financial opportunities are plentiful, but just not always through that traditional route.
Everyone can’t be a SM star, e-commerce titan or e-gamer, the odds are about as good as becoming a hoop star or rapper. Furthermore this completely dismisses that the damage is done and path has been undertaken for most of the millennial generation. We were told by our boomer parents go to college = good job, it’s what worked for them but has proven to be broken for us in the past 5-10 yrs. A lot of millennials are already making adjustments by not owning shyt, especially compared to gen x and boomers at this age, but if you already got $20-150k in students loans, you’re stuck. This “new option” thing makes sense for gen Z to strike out on, but it’s too late for many millennials

lol the current career path doesn’t make sense for millions of workers period. A three month pandemic showed that. So if you’re saying there isn’t a way outside of get job and retire 40 years, then we will disagree.
What are those paths in a world where we’ve just completely changed the landscape of socialization (which affects consumer biz like bars, restaurants, fitness, grooming/beauty), and thousands of small businesses have gone under while lending has tightened up?
