I live solo now. I've never lived with roommates other than in college. Never as an adult. The only people I've lived with as an adult is my ex wife and kids. I'm too damn old to be having roommates at this point in my life

Also for reference, I live in a non metro area, one hour away from a metro area. There are multiple avenues of means to make a good living here, I work at a hospital. So it's not some stereotypical barn and gravel road parish(not a single one).

I guess what I'm getting at is that, there are places like this all over the "south" where houses are affordable, means of living are available, and it's not just some podunk country lifestyle, and yes I live extremely comfortable.
Everyone doesn't want to live an hour away from a metro area (point proven) in a small southern town. It doesn't have to be barns and dirt roads for that point to be made.

I live alone.
:pachaha:
Makes me happy I moved out of New York City, the cost of living was killing me.

I love not having roommates.
:blessed:
:salute:

I’m moving out of here soon . I’m born and raised and from a living situation I’ve started to dislike nyc. Paying all this money to live in a small cold box with no parking :mjlol:

There was a time when you could and that is why people are upset. Particularly when a particular demographic that came up in a time when you could afford it on minimum wage is constantly telling younger generations to put down the avocado toast because back in their day they did X,Y,Z and got by just fine. Even people with “good careers” are struggling.

Exactly.

And not to mention that the overwhelming majority of the workforce isn't making much more than their local minimum wage in the first place. Combined with the fact that wage growth has been incredibly stagnant as compared to CoL increases, and the lack of true advancement opportunities for most (the days of working your way up from the mailroom are DEAD. And for most, even if they get that promotion, the age increase is typically capped because companies aren't going to increase someone's wages by a large amount based on their starting income), and it's not hard to see that the argument from the older demographic is incredibly disingenuous.

So then those people shouldn't bytch about prices of housing being too much, you adapt. Live 4 people to one home, or sleep on the street. Imagine complaining that you cant afford to live in a home dolo in NY, even though you can easily manage to do so 1 hour away :mjlol:

Yes, they should, because it costs too much and everyone should not be relegated to living an hour away from a city to possibly afford living or else live with 4 people.

And no, the difference between affording a home in and out of NYC isn't just an hour away.

Man, people in allied health fields have the best advantage. You guys can literally move to less desirable places and still get six figure salaries (sometimes even at a premium).

Agreed.

Why? What makes you think we're obligated to live in certain areas? 'because its convenient to you

Affording a home maybe not, affording a place to live, sure
Why should someone be inconvenienced due to price gouging? Why be forced to make a tougher commute? Why should they also be stuck in perpetual renting and locked out of home ownership if that's a goal?

I have people in my industry working 2-3x as much as the average person driving an hour-plus to/from PA 1-way to afford a home when they got 13 and 15 hour work days. This system ain't it and it's okay to call it out instead of suggesting everyone fall in line or live in the Bumblefukk towns to make due.
