Yeah they lost, it would be taking a step back by doing that but they're not making the playoffs next season anyway. They could take Len 1st overall and have just about every position filled besides the 3 spot and would have money to sign a decent wing with Love off the books. They could sign a Matt Barnes for a little over market value with this deal and bring back Pek. Teams in small markets have to take these kind of deals because they won't be signing anyone of significance anytime soon.
I think they declined the trade because it would be way too much color on that roster and as we all know they like their roster pale and frail.

Your best case scenario is kicking the can down the road five years and one of them being as good as Love eventually. Small market teams win by building around the stars they have intelligently, not throw him away for a pipedream.

I see no way the Wolves become a playoff contender anytime soon. Might as well take a chance.
If the Wolves put Love on the trading block, they could get multiple players that are good today.
