I love threads like this because it takes me back to that period of time when I loved R&B/Soul music. Music evolves, but much of R&B current day could be interchanged/confused for a hip hop song. I'm sure the capable artists would like to make music like this but the powers that be make them do what they think will bring home the bacon.

My dear and Forever in your eyes are two of my favs but I don't think they are underrated. They just wasn't superstar status and that's just rare anyway. Most black folks know or have heard of mint condition esp if they grew up in the 90's or older.

Stokley’s solo album was dope. The following song with Robert Glasper was one of my faves..

Man, Mint Condition is my favorite band of all time, no lie. Those dudes are insanely talented. Musicianship off the charts, and always stayed true to their sound.
I mean just listen to "Sad Girl" and tell me with a straight face that there's a band alive fukking with them in ANY genre (Ok, except jazz coz there's some incredible jazz musicians out there
). The last two minutes of that song have me in some sort of voodoo trance. By the time the horns come in I'm frothin at the mouth.

One of the greatest R&B groups that doesn't get their just due. From the vocals to the live instruments, there weren't any groups in the 90s who were doing what they were. They helped carry that Minnesota sound that Prince started.
