I'm 26. Graduated HS in 2006. I'm the same age as Drake, Kendrick. It was NOT cool to be "weird" or "outside the box" back in high school. Whatsoever. If you were you got no play out in these streets :lolbron: It's why you have that old video of Drake on MTV Cribs talking like a fake thug eventhough he lived in Canada and was still Jimmy on Degrassi. That was the era.

I didn't see any of that. He had that pre-college "black guy in a white frat" swag. Real douche wave.

They get the cars and money first...or at least they used to. I remember when the homie Joe had a real Rolee in 10th grade. All the J's...gold fronts, new velours...hair was always braided...nikkas pulling up in old schools only 16! There's another reason for the shift: That crack money dried up and pills ain't selling...Nobody's super getting it on the street tip anymore. That's not the picture of power.
right people make money from scamming now.
they use their finesse and wit to make money aka "SWAG".
it literally pays now to be a lowkey and cultured.

yeah, cracking cards...which is a federal financial crime with more risk and less reward. My ex got caught playing with them checks...snitched on the africans...still on Fed probation now.

I know a lot of nikkas like that. In my younger era, if you rapped (In non gangsta/south fashion) or did art, you'd attract more white girls. Black girls didn't like dudes who weren't into mainstream culture like that because it made them look bad in front of their friends. I used to get the "you're cute but weird" shyt until I learned to keep certain aspects of my personality to myself. It worked.
Give me some examples of things. Like, liking manga? Elaborate. I kinda know what u mean.

awkwardness and nerdiness are becoming more acceptable in pop culture.
did you see 21 jump street.
thats literally how HS is now.
maybe not to the extreme as that movie but its shifting toward that.
all that rah rah thug shyt isnt attractive especially if your from the hood.

I don't know what hood you come from. I can only speak on growing up in Baltimore,Nothing changed about the high schools here. Here if you aren't into the usual things. You are seen as weak, not weird but weak/soft. Be into something like skateboarding or different type of music, you are a clown off jump. You only get a pass for being different if you are connected through family members, even then nobody will fukk with you.

Matter of fact, I just had a little incident last week. Took my son to six flags, he's 10 but looks like he's 14 and dresses in the latest ( thanks to his mother ) fashion. Step away for a second to use the bathroom and little nikkas were trying to mug my son. Of course he didn't know what was going on, because I worked my ass off to make sure he wasn't raised in Bmore or that type of environment

Liking manga, reading books other than "urban fiction", liking sci fi, being into ricer cars, skateboarding, graffiti, being into wicca (I know nikkas...), comic books, wrestling...basically any hobby possible that wasn't "sexy" back then or took most of your attention. Even with music: If you could rap FOR REAL back then you got no holla...you had to be on something relatable and easily digested...most people ain't that bright and don't care to dig for anything. They like what they see...That's why I fukked hoodrats and bounced...or they would bounce because they'd see a nikka wasn't what they expected.

It's way different in DC and PG...at least on the surface. They still like lil dirty nikkas, just fresh. Bmore is just a dirty city with dirty swag anyway.
