he agreed to give greg 10% of the song
sent him a contract
original 45 pressings credited him
then mike went back on his word

the man wrote the best part of the song
mike started it but greg finished it
"greg, it needs another part"
love mike, but he was wrong on this one

Greg helped clean up "Shake Your Body Down".

He added the offbeat hihats especially too.

I suspect management was the ones who went back on that contract with Greg.

and that was his friend. just comes off as greedy.
when you think of some of things that transpired after that, it just makes it all the more interesting.

consider how bent out of shape mj was when quincy wouldn’t give him that producer credit for billie jean.
he stopped talking to quincy for a bit over that. greg could've sued mike over their situation.
but he decided the relationship was more important.

As far as MJs music goes he’s a producer. He takes the songs written and composed and polished and gives them finishing touches.

Because of how hip-hop has changed the process of making pop music, most people think "producing" means the writing the music, and that's not the case.
Quincy does compose. He's composed many film and TV scores. That was his primary occupation for awhile.
He doesn't really write pop songs, though.
He wrote this familiar song:

He started off as a trumpeter, then he became an arranger for Sinatra and others.
After making his name scoring, he switched gears and got into producing records.
He was brought in to produce The Wiz soundtrack and adapt the songs from the stage musical for the film.
That's where he met Michael.

He did not write Michael's music. He only has two credits as a writer on MJ music. PYT and this song, which is credited to him and MJ:


Both credits are kinda shady. PYT was originally written by MJ and Greg Phillinganes. Q passed on it.
Quincy had James Ingram write the version on Thriller. Q's writing credit is more than likely just a kickback for getting James' song on the album.
Can't Get Outta the Rain isn't really a song. It's just the second half of You Cant Win.
