Most players didn't shoot many of them. The rockets team that won in 1995 led the league at a rate of attempts that'd be bottom half in the league today. I would not have left mike open and dared him to shoot the three as evidenced by several seasons of shooting it well when the line was moved in, but there's no reason not to try to be good at it. It's a valuable skill. It's not like if you just stuck the Bulls of the 1990's in this era it'd be a perfect translation. Nowadays lots of players put a lot of their time into their 3 point game. It's kinda the equivalent of the deep throw in football.
I agree, you should try to be good at it, but not at the risk of it becoming detrimental to your overall game.
The slow grind of the 1990s, made Jordan hit the gym and get bulked up so he can take the beating. No reason to assume, given his greatness, that he wouldn't adapt to the 3-point shooting ways of today.
