It's so sad that no matter what the Jays or Raptors do, they'll always be stuck behind that garbage hockey team. :scust:

I dont think so. Since July the Jays got monster ratings, like 3-4 million on average a game for playoffs and 1-2.5 millions on average for the last 50 games of the regular season. Leafs are expected to suck yet again, there is no buzz around them. My friend says that the Jays are the talk of the town right now. 2015 Leafs are invisible status now, until the Jays are eliminated or win the WS.

Also Jays were probably AS much popular as the Leafs in the early 1990s, when they won 2 straight championships in 92-93. 2 back to back chips, I bet the fans gave them a lot of good will because of this obviously.

No doubt the Jays are hot right now, but they need to be good in order to generate fan interest. The Leafs have been trash since 2005 and still sellout every game. Even if the Jays win the WS, they'll still be considered Toronto's #2 sports franchise.

Well its Canada, hockey is the national sport here, I would never expect to see another sport dethrone hockey anytime soon.

Jays have been in Toronto since 1977, while the Leafs have been established in 1916. Its important to mention this because the longevity of a team allows to establish deeper roots into a city, leaf stanning has been passed down from generation to generation, like 4-5 generations now? Jays have like 2 generations of this process. Also baseball, while probably popular in the rural majority white parts of this country, the same level of popularity aint reciprocated in the urban areas. People stan the Leafs because its the #1 by default, like in Montreal where the Habs are the #1 team of most ppl there. Impact have been here for 15ish years? Alouettes the same. They have not been here long enough and not entrenched into their city history.

Tho if the Leafs continue to suck for another 10-15 years even diehard stan masochists will be like :camby: and move on. And the future aint bright for the Leafs, they have the oldest fanbase by far. And if the Jays/Raptors manage to have consistent success over the next 10-15 years, they might be running the city.

Demographics — Toronto Maple Leafs — Core Media Inc.

As for the demographic question, Core media does the programs for Leafs, Jays and Raptors. In preparing their advertising pitch, they put the demographics for women at:

Jays - 42%
TFC - 40%
Raptors - 33%
Leafs - 33%

Interesting look is by age (men and women):

Jays have the youngest following at 50% in the 18-34 demographic
TFC has 46% of its in stadium fan base in the 18-34
Raptors largest following is also in the 35 -44 age group but there are fewer of them (28%)
Leafs have the oldest following. Their most popular cohorts are the 35-44 and 45-54 groups tied at 24% each

Sort of confirms a challenge for the Leafs. They have priced out the younger generation and risk losing future generations who don't identify with them.

Also the Montreal Canadiens are the team that represents french-canadian/quebecer identity and their battle against anglo-saxon supremacy in north america .Its like their national team, for a lot quebec people the Habs are like team france in soccer status.

By comparaison the Leafs are just another team.

Ya'll trippin. Hockey will always be king in Canada, especially Toronto.

You see how Cowboys ain't done shyt in 20 years and soon as they win a playoff game DFW goes crazy? Mavs stars and Rangers don't matter if Cowboys are even doing semi-well.

That's how Toronto is. 7/8 seed leafs will always be more popular than contending raptors and Jays.

The sheer amount of old white guys who have their entire living rooms decorated in antiquated leafs sweaters and memorabilia shyts all over anything raps or Jays could ever garner. Even with back to back to back to back titles.

If/when Leafs make the Cup Finals, it will be the most expensive ticket in pro sports history.

You guys just put out Seguin and McDavid.

Breh, it's going to be another 20 or 30 years before kids growing up in GTA/Ontario don't want to pursue and excel at hockey first and foremost.

Shinny >>>> pickup. You know this.

The sheer amount of cacs in Ontario will always make sure hockey reigns supreme.
