The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded veteran defenceman and captain Dion Phaneuf to the Ottawa Senators in a nine player deal. Along with Phaneuf, the Leafs send forwards Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey, Ryan Rupert and defence prospect Cody Donaghey to the Senators in exchange for defenceman Jared Cowen, forwards Colin Greening, Milan Michalek and Tobias Lindberg as well as Ottawa’s second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Cowen makes Phaneuf look like Chris Pronger. Slow lumbering fool is awful and not an NHL player. I dont know how to feel about taking on this contract though

Well, at least he'll actually have a chance to play playoff hockey....maybe he can earn his keep there.

Phillips is done, we will pair up Phaneuf with Cody Ceci who's a pretty good young player himself.
We've been looking for a solid second line d-man and Phaneuf probably was the best available. At least it'll make the rest of the season interesting

But on the surface Ottawa dumps alot of trash for someone that could really solidfy that D
