Explain the rollover. I haven’t read too much about the contract situations this season.

However, I did see that Cespedes’ 2020 salary was restructured down to $6M because of last year’s off the field injury. But if he were to begin the season healthy, it would go up to $11M.

I know salaries are prorated this year, but could this be a factor? Just start the season healthy for that higher fixed salary and bounce soon after?

Are players still getting paid even if they opt out for COVID reasons?

Baseball is allowing players who are deemed "high-risk" to opt out of playing and not lose their prorated season salaries or service time. Players who are not considered high-risk can also opt out, but then they would forfeit their salaries and not accrue service time.

not sure where cespedes would fall probably the second

“There’s two sides of the story,” Nimmo said. “We have the side where [the Mets] were let known before the game and we’ve also heard the side where they weren’t let known until the eighth inning, so I honestly don’t know which one to believe and I’m not going to try to figure that one out, but as far as us, we knew that people could walk whenever they wanted.”
Asked where the story about the Mets knowing before the game that Cespedes opted out had originated, Nimmo cited “sources around the team and rumors.”

No one from the actual team but sources 'around' the team. And straight up rumor. Sorry this isn't good enough.
