I thought it was a good project. P's verse on Pearly Gates getting nerfed killed the vibe of the album for me a bit.
You can even go as far as to say Interscope pulled support for the album after making the call to censor it.

I thought it was a good project too, perhaps lacking that one song that could catch on radio wise, nationally, internationally, they certainly tried but it's not so easy when the group is conscious of keeping their sound/fanbase and not wanting to sell out entirely.

They tried with the Nate Dogg joint (have a party I think it was called), but the bpm and short sample loop / lick didn't do the song any favours.

it's honestly not that bad now. I listened this week and all this Havoc produced tracks aren't bad at all, and the Exile track is excellent. The ALC track is good. They had some misses that were the commercial appeal attempts, and they had maybe excessive G-Unit features, but after a lot of years it's honestly not as bad as everyone made it seem.
"the infamous" is actually one of my more liked mobb deep songs. Blood Money is actually the first MObb album i got into, so people were full on into their "eff g unit!" phase. Mobb (and particular Prodigy)'s career is actually interesting. As grimey as they music is, its also a story of perseverance. Because you are right, the album is actually pretty good (especially now). But good look admitting that at the time.

All points I agree with....well said.

Also......the bar for a Mobb Deep project is always going to be high, despite what people may consider the previous misfires (Infamy, and Amerikaz Nightmare which I thought were solid). The next album is always gonna be hyped as the one that rights the ship.

Family off Nastradamus is the most underrated MOBB and Nas collab. Incredible record. I think produced by Dame Grease. It’s one of those beats that sound like a movie score ( Biggie Victory and Nas -Small World)

Family still slaps to this day......People forget that Dame made great tracks for artists not named DMX.

the g unit album in an alternate universe coulda been a classic...lead single was fire to me

Give them the songs from the Soundtrack and keep the "Outta Control Remix" as the least single for the album, add "Nightmares" by Dre, get rid of the blatant radio joints like "Bring It To Me" and it's a solid ass album. The highs are really high, love the Alc joint on there.

I still don't understand how and why people shytted on "outta control remix". That may be one of Dre's best beats in the last 20 years.

This. Huge song at the time, it's a pity they couldn't capitalise off of it completely. In retrospect it was the perfect alley-oop from 50 for Mobb Deep, it set the foundations for their G-Unit/Interscope album. For numerous reasons in didn't translate critically, commercially.

The Alchemist once described Mobb Deep's G-Unit foray as 'musical incest', in that G-Unit (50, Banks, Yayo) stylistically, content wise, subject matter and so on, are the child of Mobb Deep's sound and impact, they'll all admit they were Mobb Stans too. So paradoxically, when the parent sound signs to the offspring sound, it creates an unusual, disingenuous situation, something just ain't right.

There's certainly some merit to the concept.

The bootleg was superior if we honest. Deer Park, the mega freestyle, og white lines, three from nyc (possibly the best song from that album that never was), the Pac diss, I can go on.

When I was younger my pops made a film that licensed ‘Where ya heart at and Quiet Storm’. He copped the soundtrack and and an early release Murda Muzik for me. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’d memorised the bootleg already. 😂

On second comments re Murda Muzik, why the fukk they take ‘Feel my gat blow’ off the retail!? That song is perfection, and a prime example of P and Hav chemistry, they go back and forth perfectly.

Murda Muzik is the Mobb’s best album overall, although Hell on Earth had the biggest impact on me. If you say The Infamous is their best album then you’re a Mobb dilletante.
