Nobody "needs" a new car. I've never had a new car. I've only had used cars.
Just say no if she's not reliable. Sucks but its better than you beating her if she doesn't keep up with the payments.

If she isn't financially reliable to pay her bills on time, you shouldn't take that risk to cosign your mom. Also, if you have some money to lend her so that she can purchase a car with no payment, give your mom a helping hand; it is better than placing your credit on the hands of an individual who can possibly ruin it.
