whats the appeal of lance over gunlance? Gunlance is like the same but you get to do wyvern shots and other shooting.
the power guard. 360 block with way less stamina depletion when you get hit, you can block multiple attacks(barring you dont run out of stamina) and when you get hit while using power guard your next attack damage increases with each hit you took, from a PG hit you can go into Lances second most damaging skill (dash attack) - this skill does slowly deplete stamina when using it, and im assuming when the real game comes out they will have some type of system to negate stamina loss like the jewel decorations in worlds. It also has a built in passive that auto counters with a shield bash when you perfect guard. Its basically just a solid, better defensive version of gunlance, where as gunlance is way more offensive.
In wilds gunlance is WAY easier to play, and get your damage off; the animations looks fire too, and its defenses are slightly lower than lance. So it's a coin toss in what I will be playing

+paypack thrust seems to have multiple ticks of damage now and can be followed up with triple thrust finisher or the charged counter thrust (only circle)
+perfect guard counters seem to have gotten a buff in strength and a visual update were its counters seem to get the red particle shockwave effects. A lot of lance hits feel really heavy now. +Dash attack gets the speed boost much faster +Guard advance is supposedly smother and quicker to use. (hard to tell from just watching the footage) +Grand Retribution Thrust aka the new move: 1) seems to replace follow up rush and it seems like the version after perfect guard atleast might be chargeable. 2) It also seems to be usable without countering anything, though the counter version seems to have the japanese kanji for pierce/drill in bracets behind hit. The perfect guard version also doesnt have that kanji. So there is an actual difference between using the perfect guard version, the power guard counter version and the power guard (no counter) version 3) You can follow up with follow up rush by pressing triangle+circle, triple thrust finisher or the level 3 charged counter thrust +charged counter (aka lances best dps move in the beta) 1) we now can do the charged counter at any time (even from idle) by pressing block + circle 2) It now works like counter thrust (the old one) if you dont release it but you can still release it at the same time as the monster attacks to do the strong double thrust 3) We still seem to have acces to the "normal" charged counter after 3 pokes by just pressing circle 4) charged counter seems to start at a higher charge level if used later in your 3 poke combo. after the first poke it start at level 1, second poke level 2 and the the end of the 3 poke combo it will be instantly in the level 3 charge +Power guard damage buff now depends on both the number of hits blocked and the strength of the hits blocked with it
