Depends on what we define as depressed. Feeling temporary down or sad about something doesn't mean depression. Unless it is formally diagnosed as such, can't rely on what someone says. Self diagnosis isn't the same as really having it.
I don't think people are depressed. I just think more people can't deal with reality. They are believing way too much bullshyt because it's constantly shoved in their face. It has even caused many to live bullshyt lives knowing deep down inside that it's a lie. So as a result, we see folks get hurt when they have to face the truth. Folks really having high expectations they should never be having to begin with.
