More Impressive: Havocs production at 18 vs Nas writing Illmatic at 18

On one end we got some of the most impressive flips in producing history, all done by a 18 year old. On the other one of the most critcially acclaimed albums of alltime on the Emcee side, by another 18 year old.

Im big Havoc stan so Ima go with him, tho u cant go wrong either way

Havoc's production is more impressive to me. Producing is a lot harder than rapping, imo.

nas....highschool dropout spitting poetry/lyrics/wisdom way beyond his years and schooling. Having a way with words/lyrics is harder than having an ear for music on an unschooled level.

Nas is just a naturally gifted writer.

As havoc was the protege to q-tip And was present in the black moon recording sessions.
Nas had no one to influence or show him personally the way to build on skill, like havoc.

Not to sound like a stan but I think it's silly to try and discredit Havoc because he was "mentored" by other producers.
You gotta remember this was early 90s music production. Long before a wannabee producer can just download FL studios for free and look at tutorials on youtube, and start making beats laying down with your laptop in your lap. You had to actually invest in hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars of HARDWARE. All in a time period where the mim wage was like $3.00. So it's only logically that if you wanted to produce during that time, find a big homie or someone who already has everything since you can't afford it, and naturally they'll give you a few pointers as well just out of love since you are using their equipment.

Your forgetting the engineering aspect that Q Tip was invovled with for the infamous album and also the overall production.

All of those Havoc beats would have sounded like mixtape demo beats without the right mix and help from qtip.

All of those sprinkles of jazz samples on all of those beats. All of those crispy hard hitting drums. All of the filtering and mixing.

"Give up the goods" is a prime example.

Q tip really made that album special. Youll never hear mobb deep rhyme on jazzed out musical shyt like that ever again.

And havoc is that dude to me as well. Dont get me wrong.

But qtip was essentially the Dr Dre so to say for that album.

Its pretty evident if you just listen to their hell on earth followup and see the difference.

good excuse. I'm not a havoc stan, only piece of work I've listened to him is mobb deeps first album, I've listened to multiple Nas albums and I like Nas a lot.

How does it not, if you're born into music that helps. Some of the best MC's parents weren't rappers but they were musicians or DJs or singers. An example being Rakim.

Hav benefited from having Tip there to retouch & pump up his drums in particular.
