Look at the arguments you get because Pac wasn't a top notch lyricist. "Itty Bitty Kitty Drinking Liquor From His Momma's Titty"? I've seen dudes try to make themselves sound smart in front of chicks talking about how they be chillin, listening to Pac's outstanding use of "alliteration".

VERY few Pac stans have I seen make the argument that Pac was one of the greatest rap songwriters who ever lived. Not "storyteller", SONG WRITER.

Cause you can't call Pac a Super Duper Lyrical nikka, Pac fans are easily backed into a corner when confronted about why he's GOAT. "Cause he had the east coast shook" "cause he was the next malcolm x" "the government was scared" "he'll beat you up"


That's what you getting with this Kendrick thread right now. No offense to anybody, but it's what happens when your musical tastes are defined into thirds: beats, lyrics, popularity.

You have no idea how to define songwriting or know how to recognize a good songwriter without falling back on "storytelling".

I disagree. Pac is the GOAT, and Pac wasnt the greatest lyricist at all I put him somewhere in the midst of all other rappers like naS and Biggie. I dont think he was trying to be either, although his later tracks were moving that direction, but without sacrificing what made Pac the GOAT and that was not necessarily the emotion he put into a track, but the emotion he got out of a track. I'll be the first to admit if you aint feelin Pac's shyt you arent going to be awed by any bars. The one fit of alliteration was cool. But overall Pac was a poet with powerful music. Thats what made him the GOAT. I think 3 Stacks is approaching though.

Kenny aint giving you either what Pac gives you or what Lu gives you. If nikkaz like Kenny they just need to say it and not make up some fake attributes cuz I see through that shyt like cheap lingerie.

kendrick is a way better songwriter than Lupe, by extremely far, I think Lupe is a better lyricist but kdot isn't far away. Gkmc was more into the conceptual writing but s80 is more into bars and quotables and s80 >>>> the cool IMO

gkmc is a brilliant album but section 80 is what confirmed Kendrick's brilliance as a rapper, lyricist and artist to me.

@ OP, it's just my 2 cents but to me Lupe has more punchlines while kendrick relies more on the metaphors & pictures. Lupe will always be my favorite lyricist but it doesn't mean that you can't give credits where its due. Kendrick is a great lyricist, no doubt about it.
