This ones gonna sting.

2pac was never, ever, ever on BIG's level in day to day, mixtape, "yo rewind that!" Convos. He just wasn't. He was more in the Scarface lane.

I think everyone knows this already so idk why that would sting

And just because you aren't as technically skilled doesn't make you a bad rapper. Pac and Scarface are more of mood rappers than technically skilled rappers and there's nothing wrong with that

:dead:.

People call me a Drake stan all the time, so it's obvious that I'm a fan.
His biggest feature of that year was a single no one remembers (Timbo - Say something).
Drake was bigger so was Lil Wayne with the No Ceilings mixtape, the Young Money compilation album, features, and his upcoming incarceration. Wayne was still the biggest and most polarizing figure in hip hop still to that point. '09 was Young Money's year with Wayne still living off his Carter 3 best rapper alive hype, Birdman dropping an album, and Drake/Nicki Minaj/Tyga/Jay Sean all coming up.

Drake had Best I Ever Had which sold 3 million copies as a single, Successful which was a huge song too and went Gold, I'm Goin' In and Uptown got a lot of love too and the So Far Gone EP went Gold and the mixtape was one of the biggest ever.

That song with Timbo wasn't his biggest feature. It was probably BedRock with YM, followed by Money To Blow off Birdman album which went Platinum, then Every Girl with YM, then I Invented Sex from Trey Songz album, then the Throw It In The Bag Remix with Fabolous and Dream. He was everywhere dude was on Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige's albums too.

Jay had some huge singles with Rihanna and Alicia Keys but Blueprint 3 was mediocre, Jay was a legend already Drake was the fresher artist and the youth had kinda moved on from Jay. It's not always who sells the most albums.

Lil Wayne Squad up series is what gain him credibility and notoriety as an MC. This is what propelled him into the Carter series.

This is the best answer and this thread and there is a never ending romanticizing of the 90s of on this board. You also have to add when people say "this wouldn't have been allowed in the 90s" or you would have got kicked out of rap for that in the 90s

Jeezy was the hottest rapper in 06. You can't compare a grassroots buzz that took over the world with rappers that have strong and established fanbases.

You have to make note of the fact of there are different regions in rap.No limit was supremely loved in the south. Mobb Deep and Wu tang were non existent down here.

Jeezy was not the hottest rapper in 2006. He wasn't even the hottest rapper in Atlanta in 2006. Once "What You Know" dropped, it was a wrap. There were album cuts from KING that were seemingly everywhere. Yeah, Can't Ban The Snowman was a big deal, there was considerable hype leading into The Inspiration, but no rapper was bigger than T.I. in 2006. That was clearly his year. You can't name an album bigger than KING in 2006.

You're totally right actually I completely forgot about King. And that's my favorite TI album. "Why You Wanna" is one of those songs that literally, mentally puts you in 2006

Jeezy was hotter than TI.

TI had what you know but folks weren't feeling King like they were Urban Legend and Trap Musik and its was partly because everyone was on Jeezy

That doesn't sting at all because nobody really argues Pac being on a technical level with Biggie.

The fact that he made better music has a bigger legacy by miles is always the discussion.

always claim he killed Jay-Z in that 7 minute freestyle like all he didn't do was subpar punchline after punchline with a great flow. Hov's lyrics were 30 times better
He did. I was with you till you said this, now you're revising history. Big L murdered that session, Jay was off-beat for a good portion using his Das-EFX flow on such a slow melodic beat. He also spit the "whenever I grab I eat up like a savage" verse that he had been using and using for years. Literally, you can catch him using that verse at a Big Daddy Kane show in like '91, again on air with L in '95 and again on the Hard Knock Life Tour in '99. Stretch and Bobbito had better reaction to L's lyrics as well and none of them punchlines were "subpar".

Jay did reuse those verses 9 million times so I can see where you're coming from with this. I just hate punchline rap so I'm biased against Big L

I'm Talkin' To You
Top Back
Live In The Sky
King Back

^^^ Some of those weren't even singles. That's not even including "Shoulder Lean" or "My Love", which were features. There's people who have King as T.I.'s best album. Everyone was not on Jeezy. Just say you were on Jeezy. There's no way you could've been following Hip Hop in 2006 and say T.I. didn't own that year.
