The main expense for everybody is housing.
Beyond that COL is really not that bad and you can control it more. When I was younger I went on multiple international trips a year and went out every weekend on around $50k salary. My rent was sub $1000 though. I know someone in NYC who lived the same quality of life on the same kind of salary so it's doable IF your housing situation is locked in
It's clown worthy but fukk it, if you live in expensive COL city look at alternative options like living further out or even roommates. Barely surviving off 100k is crazy

I live in a major city, but my housing cost is manageable because when I bought this house in 2015, house prices weren't crazy and I refinanced in 2021 when rates were at 3%.

if you can control your debts, then u can survive as a regular dude. I only have one debt, which is the mortgage. driving an older reliable car is also great as it eliminates paying a car note.
