Somewhat true, but to be honest I cringe when I hear ANY rapper attempt to discuss social issues. The only MC I know able to articulate himself without stumbling over basic concepts and depend on cliches is Chuck D. Nas, Lupe, Mos Def, Common, Wyclef, Krs-1,Ice Cube,etc either put forward lazy tropes or depend on Alex Jones type conspiracy theory arguments and think they are dropping knowledge (Immortal Technique and Krs are good examples of this). At least with more business minded MC's (I'm talking about the few dudes who make and maintain a high income even when they NOT hot) they can break down things like contracts, liabilities, savings/debt, equity, etc.
...and are good at diversion and bringing people around to they way of thinking through persistince,bullshyt or just bringin a new outlook that don't fall under the "black and white" category
...just a different or new way of thinking that's rare in a "black and white world"...so they sumtimes appear smarter bcuz most people only have two levels of thinkin and not a third in the grey area
...so smarter or just tend to think outside the box?case by case basis,but really anybody from any level of life who thinks outside the box and ask the "what if's" and "why nots" when it come to life can alotta times come off smarter than the book smart person.
