anecdotal evidence? You think Sony released the PS4 Pro as some sort of experiment? They admitted themselves they are trying to compete with the PC.

You guys on here are delusional as fukk :dead:
:what: are you talking about delusional?? I'm talking about at the START of a console generation. I'm well aware of the positioning of the Pro in regards to not wanting users to hop on to PC(which I don't think really makes a difference as a PC does more things than simply making graphics better.)

The PS4 Pro is their typical mid gen upgrade, something Sony typically does every few years except the hardware got some boost out of it.

It's not the end of generations no matter how much you guys or MSFT says so. There WILL be a cut off point. A Pro/Scorpio is just a premium version of their consoles, after the fact.

I didn't say NO ONE wants that. Of course there's a small segment of gamers that are hardware enthusiasts.

What you guys are suggesting is that Sony/MSFT/Nintendo come out the GATE, at the start of a generation with high powered expensive ass consoles which I said is silly because nobody is willing to pay that money for a console despite the vocal minority making it seem so. Whats delusional about decently priced, acceptable performing console box that sells well and makes the company profit?? You dudes and your super powered gaming console fantasies would bankrupt companies overnight if y'all were in charge lol.

Sony's idea of what constitutes a generation include a meaningful increase in power for the following items:

1. GPU
2. RAM quantity and Speed
3. CPU

Thus far, only the GPU has been meaningfully increased, thanks in large part to the 16 nm process, but RAM quantity/speed and CPU have not received a meaningful bump. By the time PS5/XB* release, all three areas will be improved substantially and we will have a true generational bump. Very likely, the next gen consoles will coincide with the move to 7 nm and AMD will have an APU SoC architecture that integrates a much better CPU. Advances in RAM tech will mean much higher bandwidth and quantities.

The issue is that the length of time between generations is very likely increasing. In order to get that large of a bump at an affordable price requires 8+ years, which is a long time to wait in an era where people expect more frequent upgrades. Hence, the mid-gen refresh.

I'm totally for the mid gen refresh, but it doesn't do away with traditional hardware cycles.
This is what I'm saying.
