I don't have a problem with tourism in general but when it's marketed as some sort of disengenous initiative to reconnect with the diaspora I find it disrespectful. Just promote tourism as would to any other non-black group don't do this fugazi stuff.
Going to the NMOAAHC in DC and reading about how so many western african coastal countries helped to sell/capture slaves after getting fleeced by cacs disgusts me. Benin being one of the top areas back then that did it does infuriate me inside. Can't lie.

Oh, I know brother. That is why I will not be sending my money to any of those places who act like we are some lost members of their nation stolen away. No, we were given away, sold away. Now that many of us have money, they want access to that money. I have no problem with that, but I will not participate in it. I rather give my money to those in need who are underserved.
Still, it is her money, her image, her life. She wants to align with that, that is her perogative. I have plenty of times on this website stated that I do not look up to celebrities at all, because most celebrities will do & say anything, for money and clout. Those who want to follow behind them have the agency to do that. I will not.

My wife also has seen the ship log that shows one of her first ancestors to be shipped over here, back in the very early 1800s via the use of Ancestry.com That ancestor was a male child.
Same feelings exactly with The Woman King. They did try to clean it up talkin about it at the end regarding the tribe being slave traders, but I'd rather the movie have been fictional instead of trying to get over on what they did.
Much of this country was LITERALLY built off the backs of our people and the slave trade. And knowing that reparations will never come despite how much it is deserved infuriates me.
Out of all countries, this one Lauren? I have no issues with people finding love back in the mother continent. Maybe giving these celebs bread to come there is part of their reparations for their role in the slave trade
