African American has always been a funny term to me. The children of African immigrants who were born in America are African American as well. Even if they’re white, technically they would be African American.

No they are not. If an African American is working and living in Nigeria with their African American spouse and they have a child while in Nigeria that would not make their child a Nigerian. The child would be Black just like the other Nigerians, but the child would not be a Nigerian.

An African American is specifically a person whose ancestors were enslaved in the USA or its predecessor British North America. Oddly enough there are Africans who are African Americans, but those are the ones whose ancestors were returned to Sierra Leone and Liberia after the English lost the American Revolution.

Naw Africa is not a country.

That is it in a nutshell. A person from Africa can point to a specific place where their ancestors are from. Whereas before DNA African Americans had no ability to locate specific countries that their ancestors were from. However, records indicated that most African Americans are from 3 regions in Africa, namely West, Central and Southeast Africa. So African American is appropriate term.

There is no such thing as AADOS. African American is a term that is coined to mean descendants of slaves in the United States of America. Black people in the USA that are not descended from Black people who were enslaved in the USA are not African Americans.

Bennett, What's In a Name? Negro vs. Afro-American vs. Black (1967)

Had to rep you for continuing to drive this point home. We've gone from slave, to negro, to colored, to black, to African American-- all of which signified us but 'Descendants of Slavery' is somehow a novel concept :dead:

Nah she's juelzing. That was a trash ass recording to go with given the background noise but I still didn't hear anything about bots being AMONG them

We used to also be colored and mulattos, and all kinds of stuff; but people didn't like those other ones either.

Colored - Wikipedia

African American stuck and it is actually more appropriate.

Joy Ann Reid needs to remember she is one of the few Black hosts left on mainstream news that were from the Obama era. They are cleaning house and alot of these non Black American black immigrants don't realize that they had alot of privilege

They had the privilege to not be fired and thrown aside like their Black American peers like Tamron Hall and Melissa Harris Perry.

Joy is gonna learn real fast with her Democrat shilling, she has to give it a rest. I do not know why they cannot just make a stand for what is right

I’ve heard of African American, European American, Asian American, but never Australian American. Also, Russian-Americans aren’t called Asian Americans despite being on the continent of Asia. Immigrants from country on the continents of North and South America have a prefix attached to their names except those from the USA.

That’s what they would call themselves. In the United States, every black person is called “African American.” Look at the definitions according to the US census. It’s stupid.
