My Pops Forever RIP
I understand that airing music videos on TV is a dead medium post-YouTube, but I think MTV could've maintained mild credibility if it kept it at least music-adjacent (Making The Band/X-Factor/Dancing With The Stars type competition/reality shows, music docs, airing films known for their soundtracks/starring musicians/original movies, a 30 min/hour block of music news)

There's just too much history & things constantly going on in the music industry for them to have to rely on teen moms & a worse version of Tosh.0

Just saw they have over 40 seasons of Ridiculousness :mjlol:
because 1. people still binge watch Ridiculousness. Ridiculousness is like Family Feud. Even if you may have seen an episode before, no way you've seen all of them, so on a lazy night, you'll just leave it on.

2. the stuff you want, Paramount+ will just push to the streaming site.

Damn. This is why we all have to download everything ourselves these days or everything will be lost.

Same thing happened when they killed flash. Think of all the 9/11 videos and just other works around the web that got scrubbed because they got rid of flash.

Yup. There has to be a more lucrative and smart strategy than showing that show 100 times a day lol. They could just fukk it and have one VJ playing independent music videos and older shyt, to avoid costs. Or playing some of the content they own like the Unplugged concerts. Something...anything.

There's a generation of kids right now buying vinyl, collecting cassettes, and getting into instruments again. There's also a HUGE group of girls, young women, and gay dudes who are obsessed with retro shyt and love documentaries. When we were kids VH1/MTV were always running documentaries about Metallica/Nas/Britney Spears/etc. Docs aren't expensive either...no excuse not to be running Taylor Swift, Gaga, Beyonce, etc documentaries in between re-runs of old MTV reality shows and music videos.

The entire internet is being reinvented to cater to misinformation, revisionist history, and AI generated click bait.

I feel for my son's kids when they are trying to figure out what's a Ras Kass :francis:
people need to start making their own websites again.

the internet sucks because people are lazy. google and reddit and facebook ruined the internet

really did a number on forums. i used to host my own forum for my friend group. it was totally fun and it wasnt just people fighting all the time

i hate what the internet became. i blame smartphones.
