You heard this song on your social media feed. I peeped the retro semi-funk vibe.
I could tell this was a cac immediately upon hearing.
Somebody who comes out of nowhere and has immediate mainstream success is a red flag that they're a plant.

Virginia-bred singer Tommy Richman makes his Billboard Hot 100 debut with “Million Dollar Baby” after the single experienced staggering growth in a rollout that started April 13 when Richman posted a snippet of the song online.

The song, which makes the most of its catchy bassline and hook, caught fire on TikTok, where the original teaser logged over 8 million views. It was released April 26 and debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 2 with 38 million streams and 302,000 radio airplay audience impressions, according to data by Luminate. This is Richman’s first time on the Hot 100, and second on the Billboard charts since he featured on Brent Faiyaz’s “Upset,” which landed on Nos. 12 and 33 on the publication’s Hot R&B Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, respectively. Richman is signed to Faiyaz’s ISO Supremacy label.

Richman’s No. 2 debut is the highest for a first Hot 100 entry by an artist with no prior history on the chart since Oliver Anthony Music became the first act to top the Hot 100 with no previous chart history with “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

After having moved from his hometown of Woodbridge, Virginia to Los Angeles in 2022, Richman quickly garnered attention for his "signature production style" without being confined to "genre labels". In 2023, he was recognized by American musician Brent Faiyaz with whom he embarked on his F*ck the World tour that also exposed him to a larger audience.[1] Richman was then signed to Faiyaz's label Iso Supremacy through a joint venture with Pulse Records as the first signee.[2]

Following a string of single releases under the label, Richman started teasing "Million Dollar Baby" on his social media on April 22, 2024, and posted footage of recording sessions using a "VHS-style recording".[3] The snippet amassed over 9.5 million views on TikTok in less than a week,[4] and helped give it an "explosive debut".[5] Richman described the sound as "palatable and listenable" and referred to it as something he likes and is "interested in". His goal was to "make cool shyt for people" and for him.

This album came out in October and Tommy on this record. He’s not a “plant”, he’s been on Brent label and he blowin up cause the record is hot. Where have you nikkas been the last 5 years? All you need is 1 hot record to blow up.
On a boutique label, which probably just an imprint with another artist as the face of it + hot song = instant mainstream chart success.
That's not how any of this works.
If that were the case, all the OVO Sound acts would have hits galore.

That dudes tracks are kinda...good tho. He's Brent Faiyaz guy. He's not becoming mainstream in the same way others are though. Just that track...his other tracks are good but have no views.

As a music nerd, I've seen this with many artists in the underground. Nothing new
