some of the most celebrated american books/movies are violent/associated with drugs like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Godfather
that's human nature, we love to consume that type of media
now that rap is an established source of that kind of media, you're going to be hard pressed to get rid of it
I understand with things like racism and classism, blacks being heavily associated by that type of media can be seen as harmful but it's a disservice to blacks to think that that's what our culture is
kids growing up have heard their grandparents or parents, jazz records, soul music, r&b, gospel from church, not to mention the typical pop hits
