$10 x month, every album from every artist u can name(rare that they dont have something) ..

You can just stream everybody's discography for 10 a month

So I can buy it right now, and just type in any song I want and it'll play it? No ads?

Basically to the point where you dont even need to download music to your phone anymore?

There will never be a time where this is the case.. wi-fi aint always free, and service isn't everywhere.

The majority of spotify users are adults over 35, who listen to it at work....it's more of a case of " i'm not supposed to be on my phone at work" than " i don't need to download shyt to my phone anymore"

Game is so crazy now.

What do you think are two, realistic solutions, that labels can use to adjust to the internet era, and start making real money again?

All the royalty checks are going to a collection agency called SoundExchange, in the case of signed artists, 45% then gets distributed to the copyright owner (usually the label), 50% to the artist, but what percentage of that 50% is the artist going to see after everyone gets their cut?

The bottom line is this is a tricky subject and Pandora has a case in that the rates they are paying are not comparable to satellite radio or terrestrial radio (they don't pay). So are you going to let Pandora die? They are the biggest in online radio by far and have created a new revenue stream for the labels.

The labels are still unwilling to let go of the old paradigm b/c they don't see a better way to monetize their assets (artists). Until they are willing to work with new technologies they don't have a stake in (VEVO, Spotify), there is going to continue to be a lot of negative press that will make it look like Pandora and other companies want to take money from artists.

All of the above is correct, plus you can use it in your smart TV, tablet and computer and all your playlists and fav albums follow you where ever you go...

Works wonders when I'm at a party w/ wack music I just throw on one if my playlists

360 deals and paid-subscription streaming music.

The industry isn't gonna ever make the money it did at the turn of the century...cause people don't have to resort to buying entire albums, cause they like one song...and the ability to get things for free.

Steve Jobs suckered the industry into believing that iTunes was the ONLY option to make money in the 2000's and beyond... and was the main culprit behind the music industry dying

A decade of iTunes singles killed the music industry - Apr. 25, 2013

people who pay for those subscription services are the types who probably already buy music anyways.

Spotify has 6 million paying customers right now. that's the almost the equivalent to 4-5 million albums being sold each month.

people still going to concerts, and buying merchandise too...labels getting money off all that too.

Unless Labels start brokering deals where TV networks pay money to air concerts from label artists, i don't see them getting close to the money they made in the late 90's early 2000's

uhhhh NO :shaq2:

In most cases unless the artist hasn't signed a licensing deal or publishing contract and is truly INDEPENDENT like let's say a TECH 9

he or she has NO SAY SO as to whether their music can be streamed

it is up to the PUBLISHER or whoever own the right of the music , in the case of Em and 50 it would be the distributor...

and as far as PANDORA they are FULL OF SHYT.........

these mofos HAVE BEEN LOBBYING CONGRESS hard lately just to STARVE ARTISTS more and more ...the payout they are handing out is JUST CRUMBS ON THE TABLE...

they doing all types of slick shyt...like purchasing a terrestrial broadcast station in the middle of west bubblefukk America (rapid city, south Dakota)
in order to qualify as a TRADITIONAL BROADCASTER like and AVOID THE "DIGITAL ROYALTIES" that deem to steep to be paying....:jawalrus:

these MUFFUKAS ARE DIRTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :damn:

Pandora Buys a South Dakota Radio Station to Save Money | SPIN | Geek Show

By buying an FM radio station Pandora is attempting to join the nation's other traditional radio stations in paying significantly lower royalties than it's currently obligated to pony up. Right now Pandora pays out more than half of its revenue in royalties, which is why it recently instituted a 40-hour free-listening limit on mobile devices. Meanwhile, terrestrial radio stations pay a scant 1.7 percent of their annual revenue for music royalties. Many of them also stream music online, meaning a station that combines FM radio with a web stream qualifies for the favorable rates.

That's the sweet spot Pandora hopes to hit and it's already getting sued for tying. BMI, a group that competes with ASCAP and collects royalties for publishers and songwriters, sued Pandora in federal court on Thursday. "Pandora’s stunt makes a mockery of performing rights licenses and the rate courts process," BMI said, while arguing that simply owning one radio station does not mean Pandora should qualify for the same rates as terrestrial stations.

damn thats fuked up, most indie people seem happy way more than majors most of the time

Pandora, Spotify etc. have never posted a profitable year. Ever. The labels are taking all the money.

Spotify Is Not Like iTunes, And Can NEVER Be Profitable - Business Insider
http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.c...money-and-then-send-it-off-in-royalties/?_r=0

They are not the bad guys. They're being screwed over and want to get better contract terms. Apple/Google and co. only want to get into music streaming because it is popular (not profitable) and they want to be the ones distributing music. Tie it into iTunes, they may even make more sales that way. But it doesn't matter to them, they just want to have the device/service that distributes music. If it's not profitable and costs them $15m a year who cares? The devices are flying off the shelves and Apple are still the go-to for music.

Artists? LOL. They are small fry in this. Just make your songs and try to get the best and most profitable tours and endorsements possible.

For your dumb folk. People will invest in ideas that make revenue. Figuring out how to make it profitable is the next step. This is why these start-ups can receive loads of money, into the billions and never post a profit. Hello Instagram.

I gotta belive napster and them fukked shyt up worse then iTunes. I mean you used to be able to buy singles in the store too...

Before there was an iTunes, nikkas could still DL off P2P wit out paying for shyt..

Nowadays iTunes is selling more full albums than target and best buy on this big opening weeks. I gotta think this idea of them being the problem is over stated.

The problem is A. I can have your shyt, for free, a week before I can buy it. And B. midnight, on Tuesday I can stream your shyt from any device for 10 a month

If I buy an album, i'm still listening to it on Spotify. Artist gets paid from my personal spins + Album. The fukk i'm using Pandora for when there's spotify? I can't even choose which song I want to listen to.
