take it back and at least get a t3i rebel....otherwise you could just be using your cell phone camera.

I know mirrorless is the way forward. But I'm happy I got me a Nikon tha icon d5500 with 35 f1.8 prime. Mirrorless prolly has better sensors, but they still can't fukk with Canon and Nikon lenses. My next lens will be dat sigma 18-35 f1.8

I think mirrorless will be the way to go in the future, but right now photographers have so much invested into Canon and Nikon equipment that starting over would be too expensive and unnecessary

so fellas, in yall humble opinion what camera should I get(canon) that has superb pictures and videos for 400.00 or less

How serious are you? Do you just want a nice cam to snap pics sometimes? or do you want to get deep in photography? Wait until the Christmas deals that come out where you get a free lens with the cam because pretty much when you move over to dslr cams, the lenses are very important. Keep in mind some lenses cost more then the cam itself...

anyway I got a canon t3i rebel a few years ago....and It does some of the things you mentioned very well...its a beginner camera as I tried to get started with photography, but the costs turned me off

SL1 which is the same as the t3i and the t5i internally but for cheaper than both. The SL1 is cheaper because its a smaller camera and doesn't have a swivel screen but you'll be taking the same quality shots as the others. I picked up the SL1 on ebay not too long ago. Brand new with a canon lens for $350. ($250 after credit I had) and I've been loving it.

If this is your first DSLR you should also keep in mind that these cameras aren't just point and shoot. It takes quite a bit of practice depending on the camera you get, to get a really good shot.
