The '96 draft is what connected me to basketball even stronger.I didn't pay attention to college ball back then. Not until '95 and that was strictly off the Marbury hype.

I just had to see this guy SLAM mag kept promoting as the "Point Gawd".People forget the hype surrounding Marbury. On a high school level, maybe only exceeded

by the LeBron hype.I damn near became a GT fan because of Marbury. That same year, Iverson, Nash, Camby, and Ray Allen caught my attention. On everything I

love, I told all my boys Nash was underrated.Dude hit every J I saw him take.Plus he was unselfish. At the time, thought he was the evolution of Mark Price.Nash had

some "soul" in his game.Leading up to the draft, the main guy I wanted was Ray Allen from U Conn, but the Suns had the 15th pick. That's when I set my sights on

Kobe.I remember Jerry Colangelo raving about him after his workout with the Suns.He said it was the most impressive workout he ever witnessed from a draft prospect.

Kobe almost made it to 15.I was disappointed the Suns didn't get him, but we got Nash:obama:.Could've been John Wallace instead:huhldup:

In 2nd grade..on my dads typewriter...i did a homework assignment and typed that the Sonics should draft steve nash to groom his as a replacement to gary payton :dead: its still at my parents house i gotta take a pic of it

Nash could've even played a lil bit of 2 guard with Glove in the backcourt.

That's where the Suns played him early on.When they had KJ, Kidd, and

Nash on the same squad:wow:.Nash Low Key top 5 shooter all time

Exactly

I also wrote a letter to the clippers telling them to draft vince instead of kandi man

They mailed me back a couple of stickers and their schedule :francis:

You were a smart 2nd grader.

That would have been a good pick for the sonics.

Damn that's crazy similar to how I was introduced to Kobe. My family wasnt big on sports but my sister used to talk about Kobe because of Brandy as well. She used to love Kobe. She was crying so hard on Sunday smh

Kobe was really already a superstar off that alone outside of basketball n I never even saw him play crazy smh

Damn, we pretty much have the same story in terms of being that much more connected to basketball with this 96 Draft. I started following Ray Allen at UCONN that year, and never looked back. I remember that Draft like it was yesterday, and all the Kobe talk.

and yea, we got John Wallace...along with two other first round picks that never panned out.

The 718
Zach Lowe was telling the Stackhouse story on his podcast. He said he texted Kobe and asked him about the 1-on-1 games because he has a Stackhouse podcast coming up and Kobe was like "Ask him, about those games, but make sure you hit up Tom Thibodeau and Mo Cheeks so they can tell you what happened. If Stack tries to lie, tell him you got witnesses." :russ:

WHen I heard it I immediately thought of this thread. Same story!
