...So, one day, he gets the bright idea to sell a newspaper he had autographed. Now, this is a Philly newspaper, local sports (from like 1995-96) of Kobe declaring for draft. He said he got it signed as a joke, it was wrinkled, and only got Kobe to sign it because he made the front and the back of the paper. As in, "Yo - you made the front page AND the backpage of the newspaper - wtf. Sign both sides because this may be worth something fool :pachaha:"

So, fast forward - he brings the newspaper to the shop, and they say ":whew: - is 13 cool for this??"

He said "Hell YEA, $1300 for a old newspaper, damn!"

He says the shop owner is like " :heh:, $13,000"

So, my homeboy says, not only did I end up not making $13,000, but I ended up spending $100. To get it framed.

That's the frame that is still on his wall to this day, and I may even get a pic for yall one day, if it isn't too creepy.

Kobe is worth some $$$.

More actual personal Kobe & his cousins stories coming soon :smugdraper:

He went to my high school in Philly (George Washington Carver High School of Engineering & Science (E&S for short). He's a lot older than me....like the class of 1999-2000 (Marc Lamont Hill also attended around the same time as him). I attended from 2000-2004.

Yeah man he's going through it right now

Legler was on golics show this morning saying how he went to the gym one summer to run a pickup game and while he was getting taped up, he saw this skinny kid killing people - established college players. He asked the trainer who was that and he was like, "that's joe bryant's kid. He's 15."...Legler was like wtf.

Yesterday, matt barnes was saying how in 98 when he was at ucla, kobe would be at ucla's gym practicing and playing pickup games. He was like he used to marvel at him and be like "this dude is incredible. How is he not playing:what:? He looks like Jordan out there. If he's not playing, aint none of us got a shot." :pachaha:

I was watching a video a few weeks ago and Jaleel White telling TMZ he watched Kobe absolutely destroying people at UCLA back in the day. No tape makes these stories better. :wow:

The '96 draft is what connected me to basketball even stronger.I didn't pay attention to college ball back then. Not until '95 and that was strictly off the Marbury hype.

I just had to see this guy SLAM mag kept promoting as the "Point Gawd".People forget the hype surrounding Marbury. On a high school level, maybe only exceeded

by the LeBron hype.I damn near became a GT fan because of Marbury. That same year, Iverson, Nash, Camby, and Ray Allen caught my attention. On everything I

love, I told all my boys Nash was underrated.Dude hit every J I saw him take.Plus he was unselfish. At the time, thought he was the evolution of Mark Price.Nash had

some "soul" in his game.Leading up to the draft, the main guy I wanted was Ray Allen from U Conn, but the Suns had the 15th pick. That's when I set my sights on

Kobe.I remember Jerry Colangelo raving about him after his workout with the Suns.He said it was the most impressive workout he ever witnessed from a draft prospect.

Kobe almost made it to 15.I was disappointed the Suns didn't get him, but we got Nash:obama:.Could've been John Wallace instead:huhldup:

To piggyback off of OP, Kobe spent a lot of time in Yeadon. Kobe had cousins that lived i Yeadon. That's where he met his longtime GF, let's just call her J. Kobe's parents didn't want him to marry Vanessa bc they wanted him to marry J. He was with J for about 4-5 yrs, even when he went with Brandy to the prom. The crazy thing is I found out I'm related to J (she was my 2nd cousin), she has 2 kids now and her son looks like Kobe even tho Kobe is not the father.

On the basketball end, Kobe used to kill grown men at Myers (SWP), Tustin (WP), and Amos (NP). Kobe was baptised & honed his game on Philly courts. Kobe's family is from WP, SWP, and Yeadon. So he spent time in all 3 places as a teen. He spent A LOT of time in Yeadon. He and his GF wouldn't do normal couple stuff, they'd watch game film.
