My girlfriends dog just died & apparently I'm not comforting enough

Her dog died this morning & she spent most of her day developing pictures & decorating in her dogs honor. I told her I hope she feels better & I try to keep the convo going throughout the day. Later she called me & was crying on the phone and I'm just sitting there like

I've never had anyone die in my family nor have I had a pet that has lived longer than 3 weeks wtf you supposed to say. Anyway, we got off the phone cuz apparently she was just gonna go to sleep but like 10 min later she hit me up and said "I wish you were more comforting "

I did a google search on bing on what to say but all I got was a bunch of cliche shyt

Tell her the truth. Tell her that you care for her and want her to get better but you really do not know what to say since you do not have a lot of experience. Tell her that you've been looking up how to comfort but can't find the right words. Just make sure she know's that you still care for her and will be there for her. She should understand that. Some people have close connections to their pets. I had a pet before and when she passed I was extremely sad.
