I will be the first to say I think Jay is a franchise QB but with the personnel Chicago has, I am not sure Jay is the QB of the future being that McCown looked like Gannon with their personnel and they will likely resign him back.

With that said, while Jay might not be their QB of the future, I will say this. I would franchise Jay no matter what. Why? Because Jay will get major interest on the FA market and could make 90 to 100 million easy. Instead of putting him on the market for him to choose, franchise him and put him on the trading block. While Jay's true value is a late 1st and a 3rd, I think it's possible that Chicago could get two 2nd rounders for Jay. To me, you get more picks and that team that trades for him gets a franchise player. This is not the Peyton situation since Jay is a free agent and can be franchise while Peyton was under contract so Indy's hands were tied but if they had the choice they would have franchise Peyton, traded him and Luck would have a lot more pieces than he has right now.

That is what I would do. McCown seemed better like Warner seemed better than Leinhart in Arizona. While Cutler is clearly much better than Leinhart, I am using that an example of a vet playing out his younger counterpart.

Chicago could draft a QB of the future in the 1st or 2nd round. Maybe Mettenberger, Boyd or Murrary. Smart move if Chicago decided to move from Cutler who is a franchise QB and just had the best year of his career statistically.

On point. It's probably easier to decipher Culter's trade value than it is to guess whether or not he can be consistent as a Bear. If you can flip those picks to OLB, DT, and/or interior OL help, that's a WIN.

I think we throw around franchise QB too easy nowadays. That's how Matt Ryan, Flacco, and Stafford got those HUGE contracts. Franchise QB is a QB that is going to carry your team on their shoulders. They're the cats that make everyone better.

List of actual Franchise QB's in the NFL:
Peyton
Tom
Drew
Aaron (The above 3 lead more than A-Rod, but he carries his team on the field just as well)

Cutler is 30 years old. He is what he is and he will never be any of the above QBs. He's in the same level as Romo. A very good QB that isn't going to make anyone else better and will trap a team with a HUGE contract.

Those are elite QB's. There is clearly a difference. A franchise QB is a QB you feel you can win games with and be the face of your franchise. An elite QB is someone who can carry your franchise and makes everyone around him better.

Jay's easily a franchise QB. He's not an elite QB. There is a difference but Cutler is there with Ryan, Romo, Big Ben, Flacco, and guys like that. He got them to a NFCCG.
And quit on them when he got there. There are only four franchise QBs in the NFL: Peyton, Brady, Rodgers and Brees.

Once again, those are elite QB's who are also franchise QB's. A franchise QB is the face of a franchise who a franchise believes they can win with.

there's not a QB in this draft that they'll be able to get that will be better than him. Mettenberger maybe but that'll be after years of development. unless they can convince Houston to trade their pick on some "Ya'll wanna win now here's Cutler" type shyt.
they're in a tough position cause they can't really get anyone better than Cutler but he's gonna ask for (and prob get) more than what he's worth

Nobody can win with Cutler. He is not a franchise QB.

Elite = Franchise. They're synonymous. Especially when Cutler is going to ask for Rodgers/Brady/Peyton money during contract talks. Why should he get paid like them when it's acknowledged by everyone that he's not on their level?

Franchise QB doesn't equal elite QB. If you watch how GM's and scouts use the term there is a clear difference.
