I thought those type of deescalating deals were frowned upon by players and agents, but I'm guessing $35 million this season was too much to turn down. That's not a bad extension. Indy wasn't even at the salary floor, so giving him that extra money this year while smoothing it out to $20 million each of the next two seasons is reasonable.
Wasn't he available this past summer for a 1st round pick?
Never quite understood why the Pacers were trying to trade him tbh
Kevin Pritchard has been on record mentioning that he's looking for the next Dipo/PG and willing to disregard everyone else on the roster that isn't that. I remember him essentially shytting on Sabonis before he was traded when he's now putting up superstar numbers that he was looking for.Never quite understood why the Pacers were trying to trade him tbh

His offensive efficiency has gotten even better in that Sacramento offense.
SABONIS HAD A 20, 12 & 7
ALL STAR SEASON IN INDY ASWELL...
SAME PLAYER, DIFFERENT TEAM.

That Indy roster wasn't necessarily that bad. They just lacked a legit PG and took too many gambles on injury prone players, but that's what happens when you aren't a FA destination.
THATS USUALLY WHAT HAPPENS
WHEN YOU PLAY WITH BETTER PLAYERS
AND HAVE TO CARRY LESS OF THE LOAD.
