Defend your baby daddy without bringing Jay-Z into the discussion, ma.

I'm just gonna look at two albums first...

I Am
-forgettable or wack beats: I Want To Talk To You, Dr Knockboot, Big Things, Ghetto Prisoners

disclaimer: A forgettable or wack beat doesn't mean a song will be bad. I like Ghetto Prisoners as a song, for instance. Likewise a decent or good beat doesn't make a good song. I like the Kissing beat but the song? Eh.

Nastradamus: Some Of Us Have Angels, Family (sorry brehs, shyt is wack), God Love Us, Big Girl Now, New World

---

That's a lot of forgettable to bad beats. And many of them have sound similar: paper thin sounding synths, weak drums, and various "tropical" or exotic sounds. A lot of people were rapping over shyt like that in 98-99, let's not forget. And yes, Hov spit over some wack Swizz shyt at the time that didn't age well either.

"Nas got wack beats" = ""Nas ain't got no radio accessible records"

I listen to a LOT of music. From all kinds of artists. From all genres. All eras. Even from languages I don't even understand. (props to the RadioGarden app)

We as consumers neglect the aspect of hip ho artists that's "Artist"

we think every hip hop/rap artist is making music to get as much money as possble-

edit: maybe Nas just picks wack beats:francis:

I just know when Hov called him on only dropping one possibly two hot albums he dropped StillMatic.

"Here's another classic. :martin:"

all those songs and beats were hot, and StillMatic a classc, but it's a time capsule classic

Hip Hop got a lot of those.

Maybe Nas just does what he does. He can make a time capsule beat/rhyme album when he wanna.

Nas only has 3 albums that I didnt enjoy sonically but even those albums had highlights. Nastradamus, streets disciple and hip hop is dead. All the rest of his albums have dope to great beats with some misses here and there. Nas is no different than any other MC. People just want something to knock him, because they know they cant say he cant spit.

Post It Was Written, Nas beat selection, with a few exceptions, is very disappointing. This is dam near a fact in hip hop. Don't try to re-write.

Damn near a fact by who? :stopitslime:

I swear I never heard no nikka offline call Nas beats wack. That shyt was crafted and perpetuated by Jay industry acolytes and trolls and Jay stans ran with and had fun with it to the point where sheep just parrot it.

OMG dude why are you even talking about Jay???:snoop:

I have heard this many times. One of the few credible critiques of Nas. Also remember, right or wrong, EVERYTHING Nas does is compared to Illmatic. And the production on that is Hall of Fame.

Nas has said himself that he purposely picks not so great beats because its more interesting to him

nikkas is disagreeing with Nas trying to stan Nas....fukking weirdos man
He never said he picks wack beats. You took what he said out of context. Also he was just on the breakfast club and he said honestly he doesnt get it.

That's actually pretty true. His fans and stans were upset jay lost to nas so they started making up any ole thing because they couldnt knock his rhymes. Just like people started acting like It Written and I am ain't dope albums.

I'm talking about Jay because he lit that fire that started this "Nas picks wack beats" bullshyt. Him trying calling Nas albums other than Illmatic wack was what got his industry acolytes, his stans and internet cacs and trolls calling his beats wack. This conversation can't be had without mentioning Jay cause Jay was the one who basically started this bullshyt myth.
