Its 2016 & ppl still bringing up Dr Dre as a reference to the ghostwriting shyt.
Dre has NEVER been a rapper. Technically yeah, but EVERYBODY know his role was a DJ/producer. Cats gotta stop bringing up the same ol repetitive examples that has been explained multiple times.
Dre - PRODUCER/DJ/Engineer..that was ALWAYS his nr 1 role. Thats his thing.
Diddy - Producer/Ex-producer/Dancer
So stop bringin them up.
As for Snoop, thats only guesses as far as i know. Snoop needed help with song structure, not lyric writing just bcuz hes known to just freestyle. That was what he had help with. The lyrics are still written by him but DOC & them probably helped him structure the lyrics.
But he's still an artist and a rapper with solo albums, he is a rapper, he just does other shyt too. If you release solo albums you a rapper too. Nah Snoop has had shyt written for him, so many people have, greats too, Prodigy, 2 Pac, Fat Joe, but in Pac's case for instance he was a prolific writer, for himself and even others, he's 1 of the best and most prolific writers in Hip Hop, but Ray Luv still did Trapped I believe, it was a dope song and fit in with what he was doing also. Could add Roxanne Shante, Big Bank Hank, Biz Markie (wasn't even really his lane like that), Foxy Brown, Lil Kim. People are artists and trying to make dope records and hit records too, the issue for me always been can you write your own shyt and make it dope? Or do you hire a team of writers?..
I'm not really interested in going back and forth with people because a lot of people on here (not talking about you specifically) think they know a lot more about Hip Hop than they really do, and artists and the industry and how the dynamics work in a group or as a whole. There's a clear distinction to me between somebody having their whole catalogue written for them and having a song or a verse written for or with them. I think it's asinine to for instance discredit Scarface after ALL the masses of shyt he's written, classic solo songs and great albums, group shyt, masses of incredible writing work because he may have spit a couple of verses Willie D wrote, that makes no sense to me whatsoever, especially considering Face wrote for himself the large majority of the time, and certainly wrote some ish for Bushwick too. To each their own though but I disagree with the whole premise that if someone has had anything written for them they are now somehow a fraud or written off, I've only ever heard that on the internet and from people actually not involved in music too. Also on the subject in mind people should also remember KRS said no-one has ever written anything for him, he was just usuing example and people as usual take things out of context, he just was saying because Rakim's standard was so high he wouldn't be embarrassed spitting a rhyme he did, because Rakim is a great WRITER, and MC.
But anyway agree to disagree but MAD people, not just the ones I named have had at least something for them written, a verse or shyt, even in some of the most celebrated and decorated groups such as Bone Thugs or Wu Tang etc.
