it depends on the genre...the thing I like about Rockstar is that they really invest in developing their characters and adding new dimensions to gameplay.
For the guy who said all those Nintendo games---give me a fukking break. Nintendo literally repackages the same characters over and over and over and over again. It's the same game about a plumber in suspenders that goes through pipes, drives go karts, and beats up on other nintendo characters. It's mindless and for children.

GTA 5 is the greatest game ever made, red dead redemption is in the top 2 games of last gen....seriously only name that is greater than the GTA trademark is Mario
EDIT: lol just realized gta 5 came out last gen so in reality GTA 5 is currently the best game of this gen AND last gen

Rockstar is the best in the game

But each of their games aren't the same though.
Paper Mario is an RPG game.
Super Mario 64 was a brand new 3d platformer when it came out.
Mario Sunshine introduced a whole new gameplay mechanic with the FLUDD used as a water pump to clean up the levels you platformed around.
Mario Galaxy introduced mini planets, star launchers and a slew of new powerups not found in the previous 3d marios.
Mario and Luigi for the handheld games was another rpg series with gameplay different from Paper Mario and not to mention the graphics and artstyle were obviously different.
Let's move on to Zelda.
Zelda ALTTP to Zelda OOT was massive. No need to even explain.
Wind Waker brought a whole new artstyle(cel shade), a big open world and again new mechanics and whatnot.
Twilight Princess.. Again another new Zelda with new mechanics like changing into a werewolf and other things.
Skyward Sword(Motion controls, flying bird, new mechanics and gameplay)
Zelda Wii U. Open world Zelda game with who knows what else is coming.
Metroid.
Side Scrolling to a 3d FPS on gamecube.
Donkey Kong
Each new game added new characters, levels and some additional features. Typical improvements with new games.
Smash Bros=Each Smash Bros added a TON of new things the old one didn't have stemming from modes, characters, levels and gameplay.
Mario Kart. Go play Mario Kart 64 and then Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Double Dash and then Mario Kart 8. Even as simple as they seem, the gameplay is literally perfect as it is. No need to fix what's not broken.
The only thing Nintendo really "milks" is the name which obviously helps sell games of course. Besides that, they're games aren't "rehass" people erroneously mistake them as. There's very few Nintendo titles that felt like the same old same old.
