Larry Holmes - it should have been after he tried to regain the title from Oliver McCall...a fight he was close to winning..losing only by 1 on 2 of the cards..but then he continued on...took a dubious loss to Brian nielsen's trash ass and then got a real gift against Mo Harris who really did whip his ass..sure he ended his career with the butterbean fight but the mccall fight really should have been it

in light of showtime going away from boxing at the end of the year got to mention the 2 fighters from my favorite fight of all time: diego corrales and jose luis castillo

that 1st fight finished both these guys...corrales more that castillo because when he got out of jail dude was getting into wars left and right...both guys should have retired after this

corrales never won another fight again after that..one of the saddest things i ever watched in boxing was corrales fighting clottey at 149 and clottey beat the living shyt out of him for 10 rounds because corrales couldnt hurt him

castillo got the cheap weight blown KO in the rematch with corrales then having no business being at 140 got slowly deteriorated...the ngoudjo fight which he could have lost, hatton breaking his ribs and stopping him, and the worst to me when castillo got his ass beat on FNF by sebastian lujan..that to me was when castillo was truly done but he fought like 6 more years after

Pernell Sweet Pea Whitaker - the Oscar fight should have been his swansong...that was the last time Sweet Pea looked like Sweet Pea...so much ppl didnt think Oscar really beat him

but he fought on...next fight Sweet Pea fought that russian cat and really looked the cocaine was getting the best of him...he won but testing positive for cocaine turned that into a NC...fought Tito and to his credit didnt get demolished like most of tito's opponents in that era but lost clear as day...then my man breaks his clavicle in a fight with an opponent that couldnt carry his spitbucket and gets stopped for the first time on FNF..that one hurt to watch live

The 1% who knew when to leave the sport

That ego a motherfukker fighters always thinking "they still got it" or it's for money
I especially respect Hagler leaving because he had two huge money blockbusters staring him in the face in rematches with Hearns and Leonard and still walk away. I think he could've got 15-20 million for either fight. I personally couldn't have walked away from that money.

That ego is the reason why Roy Jones is unfortunately knocked down of all time lists. He's still a legend though
Yeah, Roy is also into cockfighting and game cocks will fight to their death. Roy is a guy that will fight to his death. He always thought he had a chance to win even when he was washed.

Manila probably should have been the end for both Ali and Frazier

Meldrick Taylor, one of those fights in 92’. He looked good against Aaron Davis in 91’, but it was clear the punishment from fights (especially Chavez) and the gym was adding up. He looked shaky against Glenwood Brown in early 92’, and then his team had him move up in weight to fight Terry Norris. Cash-out fight, and unsurprisingly Norris stopped him. Then Taylor got dominated by his mandatory Espana later on.

Apollo never should have came back to fight Drago

For foreman - him regaining the title by beating Moorer should have been the storybook ending his career deserved

to his credit it wasn't like he was beat up or down after that..largely because he was very selective after on who he would face

he got boxed up by axel schultz and should have lost....the IBF got really took to task in legal proceedings and that fight is one of the reasons why..didnt look all that great against lou savarese either

powers to be had to rob him to get him outta there with shannon briggs...foreman beat briggs clearly but briggs was in the right place at the right time lol
