The fact that Bobby Hurley was even an NBA player puts me and everyone on this board to shame.

He was 6'0", 165 pounds, and had no discernible natural athleticism. (Though he did have a coach-dad, so his bball IQ was high.)

Goes off pure work ethic and knowledge of the game to become a 1st-team All-American, starting point guard for back-to-back NCAA champions, Final Four Most Outstanding Player, picked #7 in the draft.

Then one month into his rookie season, he gets in a horrific car accident and is nearly killed. A station wagon slammed into his car, he's thrown 100 feet into a ditch, suffers collapsed lungs, broken ribs, fractured shoulder blade, torn tendon in his knee, and breaks his freaking back.

And he was back in the NBA by the time the next season started, though he never matched the ability he showed in those first 19 games his rookie season.

For him to come back from THAT and play 6 years in the NBA, at 6'0" and 165 pounds, always blew my mind. I don't care what his stats are - how the hell was he playing in the NBA?

Earl Boykins and Muggsy Bogues are on the list too, of course. I'll always remember Muggsy's perfect game (6-6 from the field, 4-4 from three, 8-8 from the line, 24 points, 6 assists, 0 turnovers.)

I think Paul Pierce is one of the most overachieving superstars in the league. He's 6'6", but otherwise has no special physical attributes, and he comes from a pretty humble background. Just worked his ass off to get better and better until he became a star, and eventually a champion.

IT I won't disagree with, but wouldn't those other three had to have accomplished something to over achieve? :patrice:
Would you have picked them to be max contract players? Would you think DeAndre coming out of A&M would be a 1st team all NBA player? :patrice:

On review I can concede DeAndre and Matthews since Matthews has an All Time Franchise record to his name in Portland, but I can't with Parsons. Dude had one good season and playoff run in 13-14 and barebacked his way to that max in Dallas.
