Without reading through the replies I'm gonna go ahead and say no one. I was a kid in the 90s but the shyt RVD used your do I had never seen before.

He's the poster child for being ahead of your time in my eyes.
Well Rey Mysterio was on a WHOLE other level in truth but RVD was a standout for the ECW level of talent

Art Barr was the only grappler who was next level and ahead of his time domestically who was American.
RVD was fun but I am glad someone asked this question.
RVD was exceptional because his body type and weight and being a different type of golden boy. Who also looked the part as a van damme like how he was marketed.
So, he fit into the same level of connecting with the demographic as steamboat did when karate kid drew as well.
Yet it was others in the past athletically who could do or who have done shyt RVD could do.
Who were American or were foreign like the great muta.
The reason we liked RVD is because of the connection to jean Claude van damme and he was a heavy capable of doing crazy spots with convincability.

I missed out on WCW as a kid. I only watched the first hour. Then switched to raw when it came on.. so I probably missed out on alot of Rey's earlier stuff

Hall and Nash, the development of the NWO story and crow Sting are what REALLY got me into it. And Lex Luger appearing on both shows the same night

When AJ used to do this his arms and legs would be extended, made it look more elegant

RVD has only that Lynn match from LD 99 as a classic(and they ruined that trying to recreate it too much) And let me add RVD throw some of the worst worked punches I've ever seen in wrestling. Makes Cena look like prime mayweather
I never noticed his punches when I was younger but I was watching KOTR 2002 a couple weeks ago and they were some of the worst I'd ever seen.

Yeah with no Internet we all thought him and Jean Claude were brothers. And he did the karate shyt. That was definitely apart of it.

It was dope, tho.
I love RVD, tho.
So my comparison are not complaints.
RVD was a bonafide fix and him and taz on hardcore tv was my favorite wrasslin program quality wise of all time.
Till, roh on directv crushed the buildings all time for me.

You know what,..
Imma have to agree with this here too.
As, I really had to think about this and had to think about the only way ach would be better than RVD.
Ach has higher pedigree in psychology and a larger moveset.
that are more grappler and visually damaging to offset the killer spin kicks in comparison to rvd's timecop fun based offense.
Plus, ach can do all the cobra Kai dojo ass fun kick sequences as well.
Including sell as well as RVD.
He may not invent new next level sells like RVD did, but he can do all the next levels sells RVD did.
Plus, for a while on roh tv he was booked in that darling of the tv show role.
When he was being built up as well.
So, I may have to go with ach on this one.
As, I feel gateway wise ach presents a consistent high quality spot based work with psychology on a more consistent basis than RVD would or did.

Plus both have fun matches and ach can survive without being booked as the victor.
When RVD jobbed it always felt like politics, phoney, or he was on a jobber run and that is not what RVD is associated with.

When RVD jobs he will give you the exceptional sell somewhere in the match.
To put you over but he is not doing the same thing I saw ach doing when losing, tho.

So, imma go ach on this one.

There are plenty of new crop who can do more now athletically than RVD could in his prime, but shyt evolves. RVD had a great analogy of how when he was akid you were call as fukk if you could pop a wheelie on a bike, now it's considered lame a commonplace.

In his time, RVD was a pioneer and he made a hell of a career and a lot of money out of it.
