Name an artist who had "it" in terms of star power but never took full advantage

My first thought was Method Man, I know he's a star but he could be on Snoop Dogg level megastar, could have a classic album like Nas, Jay-Z, Pac, Big level.

Saigon- dude was lyrical yet could make great songs, had that recurring role on Entourage, was a dope live performer, but Atlantic put his ass on the shelf and it fukked up all of his buzz and he couldn’t recover. Had GSNT dropped in 05 when it was supposed to be really could have been a superstar.

Quan- Dude had the Nas co-sign and one of the best songs on Streets Disciple, which was a single and video. Had some great features, signed what seemed like a great deal and had a nice buzz. Then he fukked up and got arrested on some bullshyt and it seemed like overnight he was gone. He could’ve been Drake before Drake and he actually WROTE his own lyrics.

Had he lived, his best work was definitely still in front of him. I enjoyed Pac as an actor even more than as an emcee, and looked forward to more roles and eventually him directing movies.

Frank Ocean. I was always a Weeknd fan and wasn't into Frank outside of a record records, but he clearly had the look and sound. Seemed like he was about to really blow up and then he kinda just disappeared while Weeknd kept going. He's still got a lot of fans waiting but that doesn't last.

Xzibit seemed like he was poised to be an A-List rapper in 1999/2000. He was on B Please with Snoop and he started running with Snoop, Dre, and Em. He had a distinct rapping voice. He already had a classic song in Paparazzi in his belt. The public seemed to like him. And then his album came and it was alright I guess, but he needed better than alright at that moment to make that leap in stardom. He did get the Pimp My Ride gig so he didn’t fall into irrelevancy, but felt there was so much money left on the table because the 2000 album didn’t deliver the goods.

2. So Nas wasn’t/isn’t a star? Nas had albums going double platinum. X timing is one reason he hit like a comet. He was never going to be Pac level. Pac himself said one reason he’s “putting on a show” was to sell records. Nas was the total opposite of them. He accomplished what he was meant to.
