the reason most independent rappers don't put out the best song as the first single anymore is cuz then yall mfs are gonna give it the "Breathe", "Nas is like" treatment and have the HIGHEST EXPECTATIONS for a project only to be disappointed! They'll put out the least favorite song so the expectations are low and yall are WOWED with the BEST SH*T in the album. Makes a hell of a lot of sense in the streaming world today.

Don't play with Premier. At his peak he gave entire classic albums to rappers that were literal nobodies. And they're still touring the world off those songs that were made 30 years ago. That's the definition of classic. He gave a boom bap album to Christina Aguilera. Others cross over. He made the industry cross over to him. He's kept it super true this whole time.

I've been going through Spotify premo playlists and was hearing fantastic beats given to people like screwball, krum snatcha, and group home.

You don’t even know what “This” is. Its a SNIPPET. At least with Define My Name we got the full song to judge and critique so if you don’t like it then you just don’t like it, but you’re judgement is based on the full song so we can debate it.

But a 25-30 second snippet? Thats literally a teaser.

And Nas isn’t the same type of artist that Guru was, so Mass Appeal, superstar, etc etc type beats can’t be expected of him to choose. Nas is going to pick beats that speak to HIM and inspire him to do his thing. If after the album drops in now less than 24 hours and you ain’t feeling it after digesting 15 tracks, then cool. But people are getting wayyyyy too bent out of shape over an album we’ve heard only 30 seconds of ONE song from.

You're arguably the most critical Nas fan here and you're not easily impressed. The only Hit-Boy album you really liked was Magic, which is arguably the best album in the series.
