I've said this before but I wouldn't be shocked if Preme has been stashing his very best beats for a long time just to give to Nas. He's probably been waiting for this exact moment for like 30 years.
He’s said that he has very little beats in the stash. He’s said he doesn’t make beats for fun or for practice, and usually just does them after he’s been commissioned

Has he ever really stored beats though? Usually he makes shyt on the spot for the artist. I can imagine him having some shyt stored but it wouldn't fit his operating procedure. My hope is that once the game started shifting, he stored some shyt for elite rappers (Jay, Nas, etc) in hopes that one day they'd return to wanting his style.

But that being said there will also be new beats on there. Not really into that Ransom beat but he's def had great beats in the last couple years (especially for Ab Soul and Westside Gunn).

True, I could be wrong. I think I remember that old Scratch magazine with Nas and Preme on the cover and the article saying he gave Nas a beat CD. That was 20+ years ago and I could be remembering shyt completely wrong though lol. Plus I think Nas is more a work with the producer in the studio type of artist than take a beat CD artist as well.

i forgot to mention that dj premier is and has been my favorite producer since his mix of lifesaver by guru

my question to you is what is the "dj premier sound" , how do you define this

rhetorical, obviously he has different sounds in different eras

this is music evolution

Timeless would be the best way I'd describe the classic Premier sound. I can't think of any other word really

I do think that Hit Boy has put way more pressure on this project than it ever would have received 2005-2020. He was just so good and his output was unbelievable and diverse

I don’t think so. Premier said 15 years ago that when Nas is ready to lock in and make an album, that he's going to lock himself in at home and work all day on it because he knows they need a classic.

A Premier and Nas album this late in their careers is gonna have wild pressure regardless because of the expectations. The HB projects are mad polarizing. A lot of people think HB is wack. So if anything, this project with Primo is more of what people have been asking for for damn near 30 years.

Premier isn't what he used to be, but he's still ridiculously better on his wackest day, than HB is on his best. The expectations for this project have been high for decades. It's two GOAT's. They have to expect pressure because of the simple fact that they are who they are, and they cannot f*ck this up.

ima say this wit some context

this site has a lot of nas fans and stans

they post about features, songs, moments

when i read thru them i am always shocked how many are;

dissing legends
gossiping
not supportin hiphop

i have never once participated in such and always kept it real

so real i have been called a liar by said fans/stans for sharing my experiences as an unknown

the same day i herd once upon a time in shaolin somebody let me hear the nas and premier

i havent recovered yet from that day

for me it was the best nas album i ever heard, my top 3 nas albums are iww, i am, lost tapes

on the day before it releases i will describe the soundscape of wht i heard

nas pushed the boundaries so far and define my name is not the soundscape nor is ransom album

its some OTHER shyt
Is New York State of Mind pt3 🔥??

No primo fully produced album in the last 15 years comes close to magic or kd3. What the hell are you talking about

I'm still surprised how much Hit Boy production is disrespected on here; like were we listening to the same thing? That boy was cooking during that King's Disease/Magic run.
I came to terms with it after KD2, it's not for them I guess but as for me I have 6 fire Nas albums that I never really expected.

Yeah I just don’t agree and I don’t think a lot of this board does either

First off hit boy being “wack” lol
Fuethest thing from it. That must be a voice of yours because thru 100000 pages of hit boy threads with Nas or anyone else I’ve never seen that

And as much as preme top 3-5 all time he does not have the production hit boy does the last 10’years ir even close tbh. Hey I love him and hope they create a classic. That new song with ransom for example - it’s just too clunky. Doesn’t even sound good to me

Hoping for 2nd childhood preme

My issue is that the type of people who want this album the most are also the type of people who will listen to the first 3 tracks and declare that it's not as good as Illmatic, it's not as good as it would be if it came out in 1999, etc. So it's really a lose lose situation with a lot of people who sat around complaining about the Hit Boy albums. Because they're going to complain about everything since they won't just admit they haven't liked Nas since 1995 or 1996 or 1999 or 2001 or 2002.
