The Bobby Womack of Crack
Idk. Premo is pretty notorious for being stingy with the beats. Rappers have said when they ask him for beats he'll send them 1 or 2 and that's it. He doesn't really allow artists to rummage through his entire catalog like that. He chooses what he likes for them and gives them a very limited selection. But to be honest I don't think his entire stash would sound much better than what we heard here. Dude is just too stuck in the past. I think this is why it's important to always keep young ears around you. Premo getting his sounds from 50 year old cac musicians. They got zero funk to em.
Preem likes to sit and actually work with the artists.
Like most of the OG's, he's not into sending beats out. He wants you in the studio next to him, and there when he's making something for you. That's why I love this album so much. It wasn't his vision for what it should be, it was Nas's. This whole project was Nas's picture that he wanted to paint on his career and golden era appreciation.
So if he goes to Premier and says he wants to do this "love letter to Hip Hop", I like how Premier made sure to only work on sh*t when he was sitting there with Nas and didn't get into just making random sh*t and sending it out. This is a true collaboration between two GOAT's.
Cmon bruh…why you gotta do me like that? I’ll have to give it one more spin and maybe revisit Nastradamus a touch to make a full assessment but I CAN say with certainty that this song is 1000% better than anything on Light-Years:
, My Story Your Story (WOW that was good, I want a Nas/AZ album again), Madman, Junkie and 3rd Childhood were fire to me.
