my bad 7 years it came out in 94. add 7 years to 94 thats 2001 right.

how does the "greatest hip hop album off all time" take 7 years to go platinum
Illmatic was bootlegged heavily, by late '93 tons of copies were already on the streets of NYC. MC Serch claims to have met one man with 60,000 bootlegged copies. The album came out at a time when East Coast was being dominated by the West Coast in terms of sales, look at some of the numbers from local cats at the time Gold was considered great. Not many East Coast rappers were going Platinum.

Nas was underground at the time he didn't have a ton of features or anything like that just his Live at the BBQ verse and hype based off word of mouth from people who were touting him as the next big thing, the album was poorly marketed it didn't have a huge budget and Nas' shyt had no type of mainstream sound or single to push it to the masses. He made an album full of stories inner city struggles his experience in QB. It wasn't like a Reasonable Doubt that had songs like Ain't No Nikka made for radio.

Sales has nothing to do with being G.O.A.T., at the end of the day it's up to 1.6 million copies, at the end of the day rappers from the last 20 years of hip hop have claimed it as an influence, documentaries, books, and tributes have been made for it and it had a mystique that really no other album in hip hop has.

@intilectual recipricol with another classic gnauze stan :troll: thread :banderas:
How am I trolling when I simply posted the #'s? If all you have to do to troll naS stans is post facts then I feel sorry for their mothers. I dont even know why theyre mad at me, I didnt make or buy the album. They should be mad at naS and at the general public for this thread. Not me. I am just the voice of the people.

Sound sound sound
No it didn't, it went Gold in '96 and Platinum in '01. Can you do the Math? Also, if you don't know the circumstances around Illmatic and how the industry works please don't talk about record sales.

:beli:

it took nas 7 years to sell the amount of records carter 3 and carter 4 sold in one week :dead:

why release an anniversary album of an album that flopped so bad when it first came out? :mjlol:
