And i hope to go in half with my brother or sister and do the DNA test, i want to trace my roots back and see what comes up. Im really obsessed with finding my roots as I get older. I want to know where i came from........so i can better see where i need to go. I need to see what my ancestors overcame so that i can push through the tough times and pass on some knowledge to my seeds

There needs to be some kinds of national database for all of this stuff. I know that CACs over the years have probably tried to bury slave records/documentation but there needs to be a free national database with museums in every (major) city where people can go (for free) and look up their family into and get a simple family tree and a more complex breakdown if they want. In 2014 theres no excuse, other than apathy/ignorance, for folks to know their history. Its just insane how other groups take pride in where they originate from. And I already know why our situation is so fvcked up but there needs to be some sort of value in finding out the truth

There are tons free databases. Their are databases for towns, cities, counties, state, countries etc..
I agree,Black people need to start actively looking for their ancestors, their are tons of documents at the touch of your keyboard alone, and sources outside of the Internet.
I made a thread about finding your roots and only a few posters posted. If you want to find you ancestors you have to go do the work. There are people you can hire if you don't want to search yourself.
