Nah African's had slaves for many centuries before the slave trade it's just something humans do, everyone had slaves. It doesn't negate the evils of the Arab and Transatlantic slave trades but it's a reality
Every group of people has had slaves.
But one of the tactics they did use to get slaves captured was pitting different villages against each other and sometimes these villages would have beef so they'd say whatever and go capture them for the traders. and trade them for resources like muskets and textiles. The europeans started a lot of wars that way.
