The narrative that he picks bad beats is bullshyt.

Is there another nas being credited for the classic albums n records?

The dude can literally go dope song for dope song with any rapper that ever picked up a mic

The math don't add up.

Btw this big pooh guy that's running his mouth, if nas did a verzuz against him with his worst three albums, is he winning a round?

So why shouldn't nas fans be frustrated. The shyt some people are saying just doesn't match with reality

dikkhead Vlad has successfully cemented that shyt in people's brain with his bullhorn

Pooh’s not a bad guy. He really respects Nas he just wasn’t feeling Nasir and like 3 or four people took it too far saying they going to come to see him on some rah rah shyt and saying he’d act like a p*ssy to their faces and shyt.

9th is the only one from Little Brother (and he’s not even in the group anymore) who comes sideways at Nas every now and then.

Nas actually has one of the best ear for beats. You gotta salute a dude who can consistently go against the grain and not do what people want and still produce classic joints. Sure it means his music isn't always the most accessible to the average casual listener but you can always count on Nas to give us something we won't hear from anyone else. You don't last 30 years in the game if your beats are wack.

Hip hop purists didn’t complain about IWW’s beats? Come on man. Go listen to the drums on that album, specifically the Trackmasters ones. They hated on the lack of boom bap shyt. 9th may have revived the criticism in a noticeable way but he didn’t create it.

To me it felt like they had an issue bigger than just production but just overall persona/content/song/direction. Hence the Escobar vs Nasty Nas debate and how Nas kinda leaned into that making Nas is Like and Hate me Now the opening singles on the next album.

Son. No. No fukkin no. The argument was that he went commercial. NOT about the beats. And lets get it straight. The streets had ZERO problem with IWW. Why the fukk u think so many street nikkas praise IWW over Illmatic even?

That’s what it was. The argument wasn’t about Nas picking bad beats in 1996 that’s just fukkin stupid. That argument literally started with bum ass 9th Wonder. Nas had the streets on lock from Stillmatic to God’s Son. 9th bum ass pops outta nowhere talkin bout “I wanna hear Nas on good beats again..” and the shyt took off. God’s Son was hot in the streets fam it didn’t even make sense. nikka the Alchemist beats on the OG God’s Son was better than every remix beat the nikka 9th made.

What's crazy is that IWW backlash had to be just a critic thing or some corny East Coast shyt Because in Chicago when it hit it was like a napalm bomb. That's when Chicago started looking at Nas might be the greatest ever. Then Nas mutilated the street Dreams remix with Kellz and it was over. Most people from the Chi(and everywhere outside of the East Coast) heard IWW before they heard Illmatic. We never heard of any backlash until the early 2000s when the Internet got more prevalent. We never knew some people/"purists" disliked it. And all I can think of when I heard about the backlash is you nikkas must be the corniest nikkas of all time Q tip or whoever..... weirdos.... smh

I feel like this could be in that retconned thread. Nas had earned a ridiculous amount of good will during this stretch after dropping Stillmatic, Lost Tapes and Godson in like a two year span. It was just weird timing on 9th's part to frame the remix album that way. All that shyt was self serving imo.

It didn't help that Nas followed up with SD which was a mixed bag like most double albums.
