The crazy part is, I don't think 9th Wonder intended to trash Nas's beat selection. I think it came from a place of respect and admiration, but fans took it somewhere else. Every Nas album since God's Son has had fans asking "why didn't 9th get the Nas call", "how come there aren't any 9th Wonder beats", or that the beats were trash because he didn't have certain producers on it.

In all honesty, people still mention "Nas needs to get the original Illmatic producers", but ALWAYS leave out L.E.S. and L.E.S. was on every Nas album from Illmatic to Hip Hop Is Dead except God's Son. L.E.S. was lacing Nas with classics and he got trashed by fans too. He co-produced three of the best songs on HHID. So its like Nas always kept a piece of that Illmatic sound/team around, but fans still weren't satisfied.

Fam. Like I said. nikkas is corny. But imma disagree on the 9th shyt. He fukkin played himself and created a bullshyt narrative while Nas was at the top of the game. Ever since then Nas could never shake that shyt. How the fukk it look for them to praise 9th’s version of God’s Son to his face? He didn’t even work on THAT version. That shyt is an insult to the producers he actually worked with on the retail album. Salaam Remi got better beats on that album than EVERY 9th Wonder beat on God’s Stepson. So does Alchemist.
